I came over here from a link on the efa. I had my first seizure when I was 16. Completely random, nothing except an abnormal eeg. I went on Trileptal first but that was a joke, I had 2 breakthrough focal seizures and after I graduated high school I went into status. I was really scared at that time. But depakote er stabilized me really well. I switched to topamax 5 years later to lose weight. From there I switched to keppra...and still no problems until I tried to switch to lamictal. Then I had 2 breakthroughs...sh!t happens I guess.

Anyway I find these boards very interesting and it's fun to talke to people who understand.

Hi jeofsky, welcome to the forum. :hello:

Make yourself at home here. :)

Why did you try to switch off the Keppra if it was working?

Hello jeofsky!....

You'll find some good info and good folks here!

WELCOME jeofsky -
My daughters seizures also began at the age of 14. Seems it is quite common with the onset of hormones.
Very glad that you joined us

I find this web site most insiteful.. I have learned so much in just the 2 days I have been here.. I gained so much weight on tegretol, and now that my seizures are under control, i want to loose the weight by trying another drug. what do you think of taking keppra?

Hi minnbikergirl - all drugs react differently in each person. Sure there are some similaritites but for the most part the side effects are unique.

Since you have seizure control, have you considered just working extra hard on nutritional changes that will help you to reduce the weight. I have heard far too often that changes can bring forth a new wave of seizure activity without the promise of weight reduction.

Why did you try to switch off the Keppra if it was working?

Because I'm dumb...No..I was having depression and I thought Lamictal might help, also I heard it's better to be on Lamictal if you're going to have babies...but whatever, I'd rather have seizure control and be angsty :?

I thought that might be the case. I don't suppose you tried vitamin B6 supplements while on the Keppra did you? It's widely reported to help mitigate the Keppra moods (side effects).

Lamictal isn't without risks either.

Dilantin help

Welcome to our little home. It is growing every day.

I am on phenytek (dilantin) and keppra. My Tonic/clonic seizures are under control since the addition of the keppra. If you would happen to go back to keppra, here is what I have found that helps with the anger and moodiness.

I try to channel it toward inanimate or non-personal items. I DON'T try to hold it in. I yell at the TV while watching sports, get mad at politicians, rant on this site once in awhile, or just go exercise hard. This seems to help keep me from blowing up at inappropriate times.

I am looking into the B6. Need to do more checking since I am also on phenytek.

Sorry, but i have not done much research on the impact for mothers to be. Lots of resources here to help you.

Hi Jeofsy! Everyone here is very nice, so I'm glad you found this place.

I was wondering about:

"I went on Trileptal first but that was a joke"

I have been having partial seizures for about 4-5 years and was only recently diagnosed and put on trileptal. What didn't you like about it? Did it not work, or did you have objectionable side effects? So far for me, no seizures. I've felt really muddle-headed and have been having issues with remembering things lately, but nothing (I guess) too bad side-effect wise.

well...I am diagnosed with JME, and any carbamazepine (sp?) is said to actually make the seizures worse rather than control them, even after jacking the dose up. So it didn't work for me; it may work better for your type of seizures since we're all different ^_^

hi & welcome

this is a great place to be. have fun hanging around, you'll learn alot here.....we're a pretty interesting bunch...
