Hi everyone my 10 month old son has suspected epilepsy, It all started last saturday we were out for the day and my son was having a sleep on my wifes shoulder. After about 20 mins we noticed his eyes were rolled back in his head and he was totally unresponsive. We rushed him to the nearest Aand E department and they brought him round with some medicine that they put up his bottom. He soon recovered but was kept in overnight for observation, he was in having this episode for about an hour. We were discharged and given an EEG appointment for 3 weeks time. Everything seemed fine and we were glad to have our little man back, Thursday night i woke up and heard his breathing which did not sound normal and when i checked he was foaming at the mouth and his limbs were all shaking but not really vigorous. Phoned 999 and the paramedic gave him the same medicine (diazepam???) and again he came round but again he was in this state for about 45 mins that we know of.
After an EEG the consultant thinks he has focal epilepsy and put him on Tegretol. We are taking it in turns to keep an eye on him at night so we are really tired but dare not leave him unattended. We both feel like our world has been torn apart and are worried sick any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi scoob99, welcome to CWE.

I don't have kids with E, but many CWE members do, and I'm sure they will chime in at some point. (In the meantime, you might want to check out The Nursery forum here). I know the early stages of an epilepsy diagnosis can be especially scary as you try and figure what's going on and what to expect in the future. It can be helpful to keep a journal where you write down everything -- the circumstances surrounding your son's seizures, questions you might have for his neurologist, medication doses, any things that might be symptoms or side effects, etc. Sometimes there can be a secondary trigger that is a factor in the seizure, and writing stuff down can help you suss out some possible culprits. (Triggers can be things like fatigue, illness/infection, food sensitivities/allergies, etc.).

I hope you and your little guy start feeling better soon.

Best,
Nakamova
