Hi I new at this Graham my 4 year old son has just been dienosed with PEE-ee mahl Seizures last mounth he is been put on Epilim Syrup 4.5 dose so I was hoping to get help or talk to people with about this that may have the same thing that my son has and what sort of side afects that people may have expriense. I hope people can halp me please.

Welcome to CWE. There is a lot of information here on this website and it's a great way to find people with similar circumstances. My daughter who is 9yo now was diagnosed in 2006 with partial complex, tonic clonic, & absence seizures. She was on Valproic Acid for a short time in conjunction with lamictal and clonazapam. None of the meds worked for her, how are they working for your son? Have you seen a decrease in seizures?
The side effect Rachel experienced was exhaustion. This was the only one she had but we abandoned that med after a couple of months due to no control for others in hopes of success. Ultimately none of the meds worked for her. Every person is different though so don't let that scare you! Your son might respond well to monotherapy and that would be ideal.

Hi tas! Welcome to CWE. This is a great site to ask questions, chime in, or just vent in the padded room when needed. As for epilim, (I think that's depakote in the states) I used to take that. I was diagnosed with petite mals when I was about 15 years old. I also have grand mals. I was put on a combination of depakote and phenobarbital. The phenobarb was for the grand mals. I took depakote until I was about 32 years old. I had moved and had a new neuro. He ordered an EEG and found that I was no longer having the petit mals, so he weaned me off the depakote. (He said I had outgrown the petit mals.) Depakote worked great for me. The only side effect that I had while on that med was weight gain. so if you keep your child on a healthy diet, and make sure that he has an active lifestyle, that should help to offset the weight gain that's common with the med. Also, another reported side effect is hair loss. NOT in clumps or handfuls, but just an increased shedding....so you might want to keep an eye out for that...although, as a little boy, your son can wear a buzz cut or high and tight haircut much easier then girls.
