This is the first forum I have communicated on. The other day I was researching neurofeedback and found this site with so much info on it. My name is roberta and I have complex partial seizures. I was taking Lamictal for years and it controlled my seizures completely but I felt that the side effects were too much so I took myself off it. I am on a special diet (no gluten,Msg,and excitotoxins etc...) and take supplements and am taking 100 mg of Zonisamide every other day.I 100 mg every day and that controlled the seizures with everything else i am doing. Now i am hoping the lower dose will work.I love to research and spend a lot of time doing so.I want to know how effective the neurofeedback remains with those who have used it.It seems like a great tool.

Welcome to CWE Roberta!

I haven't tried neurofeedback myself (cost and access are issues) but I hope to get the opportunity eventually. You can search on the site to find more info about neurofeedback, and those who have tried it. It does seem that diet can play a role to, as you've discovered. I hope you can reduce or get off of the Zonisamide. I was on it briefly, but it did not agree with me, and I eventually switched to Lamictal.

Best,
Nakamova

Welcome Roberta

I think we all know about the side-effects of AEDs are like. There's numerous references to them on this site.

I'm curious, where did you come across your special diet? Was it recommended by a professional or did you discover it yourself?

Regarding your Zonisamide, wouldn't it probably maintain your levels better to take 50 mg every day instead of 100 mg every 2 days.

Meanwhile take a look at the "history book" in the "library" http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f32/ RobinN had quite an experience with neurofeedback.

I have 50 mg...just filled a perscription for it..I saw the neurologist a few days ago and he did mention 100 every other day also...it stays in your system for 60 hours..so yes I want to take 50 mg every other day eventually...?//I will see the neurologist in 2 months again...he didn't know anything about neurofeedback

whew...just got through reading about the Gard diet and all that was said on this forum...I am so happy to have found this forum ..Thank you
