How likely would I get a TC??

Hello again.

You are so wonderful so far so good. Thanks so much. I am used to GIVING the support not receiving; a new experience.

But since I am slowly accepting this new diagnsosis of SP/CP my question is the likelihood of having a TC??

I have temporal lobe seizures with lesions on both right and left lesions.

Already had a terrible reaction and RASH continues as I wean off Trileptal.

My seizures have not been "that bad" as far as I know. Jamais vu is what got me to another neurologist and my dx. IN 2006 they suspected seizures as the EEG was abnormal with many "episodes" of spacing out but appearing to be alert and making errors at my job. The video 72 hour was "normal"

Since I KNOW I am going to be challenging to medicate due to my rare kidney problem which wastes electrolytes and a RASH and horrible side effects of 1st med (trileptal) I am wondering what meds he could use.

With epilepsy it's tough to predict a lot of things. It's possible your seizures might progress over time and become t-cs, but they might not. If you can, keep a seizure journal tracking the kinds of seizures you are having, when they happen, how long they last, and how frequently occur. Then, if it looks like they are progressing, you'll have a chance of noticing sooner rather later.

In truth

it's really hard to know what meds will work, based on your condition. Your docs will have to do some research, but I would also do some as well....and one of the things I would do, would be to ask my pharmacist a bunch of questions. Particularly which meds DO go through the kidneys, which ones don't.......I think you get the idea.

And Nak's right about the E journal. It's a great way to try to find your triggers..

I started having simple/complex partial seizures at the age of 22 and within a few months they progressed into secondary generalized tonic clonic seizures. I couldn't do Trileptal because of the low sodium level and have tried 10 other meds, to no avail. I also had a left temporal lobectomy 18 years ago, which did no good for me. Actually, the surgery made the TC seizures worse! Now I have the VNS, it isn't perfect and doesn't work for everyone, but it does work for me.

Wow..thanks for sharing that with me. Your hx sounds so much like my husband. He had 2 brain surgeries even doing an EEG ON TOP of the brain while he was open and EEG was performed and read by his E doc..my favorite one. NOTHING.. we were so hopeful!! Then about 6 weeks later 9-11 and he ends up on ER with TC.

But must say his experiences taught me alot. What did you do to bring up your sodium level? I am waiting on the doc to call me now.

My epileptologist initially lowered the Trileptal and eventually took me off the drug, from what I can remember.
