I'm confused here.
Do all disabled people end up homeless or in shelters? The renters always want people with jobs or career people and people with good credit. I'm looking online and they all say that. That they want students or Career people with good credit.

And then all these Housing section things, you apply to them and they never answer. THey just tell you you're on the waiting list. But since there's millions of immigrants with low income.. and usually they have families, they'll get priiority.

I have lived in a couple since my divorce 8 years ago (I have been in 2 different towns)that are public housing which go by your income. Go to you Court House and they will tell you where to go. Public housing puts people who are LEGALY disabled at the top of the list for the next opening for a rental before all else. I always had somewhere within a couple months. I checked back a few times in between too.

It's important that you meet face-to-face (if you can) with a person from your state or county's department of social services. They know all these programs inside out and can help you figure out the best path for you. They will help make the system work for you. Just call their office, tell them you are disabled, and that you need help.

some apartments don't advertise that they take section 8, My rent was being paid by someone else and I was talking to the manager one day and she told me.That's how I found out about an apartment I had once.

I can relate to what you are going through and it sucks. I have been there myself, and even to a point of living in "roach motels" and in my car, nearly totally reliant on the charity of others. Drove me nuts because I hated it, all of it. I prefer to earn my way. Sometimes we don't have much of a choice. You are not alone, you will get through this, stay strong!

I suggest, along with the other people's suggestions, that you check with organizations like Purple Heart and Salvation Army if you haven't already. It isn't unusual for them to have housing information or even short term programs to help you obtain and pay for housing. Also, it may not hurt to check with local Churches, Mosques or Synagogues depending on your religious affiliation (if any). If you don't have a religious affiliation, I couldn't tell you who would be the most accommodating without being biased (my only experience has been with Christian assistance orginizations, having been raised in the "Church"/"Faith"), so I cannot fairly recommend one above another. Sometimes they have information on low rent housing or even own such a property. Others may assist with things like security deposit or utility depost and the like. Just have to go around and talk to to the staff in their offices or, in some cases, call first for an appointment.

One more thing. Not all people who are disabled end up homeless. However, the chances for that happening are much high than someone without disabilities, all else being "equal". The chances seem to go even higher exponentially you take into account the disability and how the unique factors of each person's disability affect their ability to function, maintain relationships, hold jobs, manage money, etcetera, and thus their life in general.

I hope this helps!!

Some are Section 8 and Some are HUD (Housing and Urban Development).
