It's really irritant when people assume that I'm on drugs when I have seizures. I don't even smoke cigarettes or drink.
Just wanted to get that out.

*chuckle* I know what that's like.... :) I REALLY find it infuriating because I'm a school teacher....I don't even drink more then 2-3 times a year. :)
 
lol, wow. So people think the school teacher is getting high, huh?

I'm going on 21 and people think I'm a '16 year old druggie'.
 
LOL...could be worse...a friend of mine has seizures where she strips.... :) Can you just imagine a class full of high school boys with a teacher that strips during seizures.... LOL
 
I've had that problem before. Had a seizure in a rock club i've been going to since i was about 16 (Yes, i know legal age is 18, but i looked an awful lot older)

So about 7 years of going to that club, and the doormen tell the paramedics that they suspected i'd been taking drugs, which they knew i'd never touch...

Therein followed a lot of questions about illegal drugs. Bah.​
 
Jeebus. Can't a person have a seizure in peace?
Bah Humbug.

It's silly too, cuz a lot of people with seizures find it a real bad idea to do drugs.. because they have seizures. lol
 
I have asked my teen to wear a medical bracelet just for this reason. Many with seizure disorders have been mistaken for having a drug overdose.
 
Last summer I was in a Barnes & Noble bookstore and witnessed a young gentleman (college age) that had been sitting across from me go into a seizure, hitting his forehead on the bookcase as he went down. There was another woman sitting on the other side of me and had the audacity to say that he was probably taking illegal drugs. I stuck around long enough to make sure he was ok, and when he was able to speak again, he said it has happened in the past and no he wasn't driving. But that other woman just made me SO angry with her assumption. I proceeded to tell her that I have epilepsy and have had seizures in public places, so would she think the same thing if she witnessed an older person like myself suffer a seizure. She just had a puzzled look on her face. :ponder:

BTW, I wear a Medic Alert bracelet, too.
 
She did say yes, but she gets a little lazy since she does not like jewelry.
She will go for weeks not having a seizure and the BAM and sure enough she isn't wearing the medical bracelet.

I need to get another one that includes hypoglycemia

It is hit or miss if they actually look at it, but it give you a 50/50 shot.
 
She could get a neat piece of jewelry that she might like and get it engraved that she has seizures and such? Just a thought.
I've been meaning to get me a bracelette, too. I'm a little lazy myself. Heh heh.
 
When i'm out and pepole think i've been drinking (usally after had 1 when postictal when ppl ask) i up and turn it into joke that makes them feel dumb and back off. they say have you been drinking then i say know i'm seizure drunk. if they ask somethin i answer if not oh well but the joke gets them to shut it bout drinking.
 
This is a good idea. When I had a seizure at work, that was the first thing my Boss asked my Husband, was I on drugs? This ticked me off so bad. I told her today... I have worked for you for years, you know me!
 
As resident ex-junkie, I can confirm that its not much different. Except these ones don't come at the end of a twelve-hour binge of 'fun.'
 
When I had a T/C in the Safeway a woman I casually knew pushed her way through the crowd to ask me if it was alcohol induced. I shook my head "no" & expected a bit of help, instead she just ran off & she's never talked to me since.

I can't help but get the impression it would have been OK if it had been from too much drinking :dontknow:.
 
Had a seizure on the Metro(subway) someone said "leave her alone she probably just going through withdrawl" Some people are real "winners"
 
That seems to be how many people think. I had a convulsion in the Safeway supermarket & a girl I knew asked me if it was from drinking too much. When I shook my head "no" she just ran & has never talked to me since. Another guy there said "hold him down" & when the employee didn't he pushed him aside held me down..... idiot!

On the other hand, I would much rather be ignored and deal with it myself than have too many people be concerned (even with good intentions) & not know the right thing to do.
 
I've told my co-workers "My parents didn't spend $4000 on braces so they could break my pretty teeth" Got a good laugh all round
 
I'm like Skilly's friend....I tend to do a strip routine, no matter where I am. *eyeroll* Gotta feel bad for my kids, cuz they've seen more of their mom than they're really supposed to..........
 
Been there, done that.

So far the EMTs and police officers that show up for Tera have assumed, without fail, that she's on some kind of drugs. Matter of fact, the first time she had a T-C I didn't know because I came home from work and she was on the floor. The police officer that came gave me the third degree about medications, drugs, etc. He got mad at me because I couldn't tell him what medication she was on at the time. Made me feel wonderful... NOT. I was already distraut from finding my wife like that, then I get yelled at by the officer.
