Hello Everyone,
I have never posted in a forum so please be patient with me
I am a licensed professional counselor who has suffered with pretty severe psychogenic seizures for about 30 years. When I say severe I mean I was having full Grand mal seizures. A seizure for me starts with an aura that lasts for about 10 minutes, then I start sweating (enough to soak me), my breathing speeds up, my heart pounds, my stomach cramps, my head tingles, I feel like I have to go to the bathroom, my teeth clench, I get tunnel vision until I can't see, then I can't hear then from what I'm told I convulse and then I lose control of bodily functions. When it is all over I feel fuzzy and I am exhausted for several hours to several days.
They started around the time my parents got divorced and as you can imagine were very scary, especially with no diagnoses.
I have had MRI's, EEG's, blood sugar testing, allergy testing, Holter monitors, an event monitor, CT scans and eventually ended up in the hospital for 3 days due to an injury suffered during my worst seizure to date. I have seen Neurologists, Cardiologists, Allergists, ENT's and many more. none of them were able to find anything.
18 years ago I was pregnant with my first child and started to feel "the aura" coming on and was very concerned for my child. As the seizure started to hit I found that I was able to somewhat control it! This was the beginning of my recovery. Around this time I began my schooling to become a psychologist.
After many years, I started to notice that my seizures would happen immediately AFTER extreme stress. I also noticed that I was able to "slow them down".
I ended up on this forum because today I started treating a patient with, what I believe, may be the same thing.
I tried not to get to wordy so I apologize if I did but I am so excited to see I am not alone
Please feel free to ask me any questions.
