So I am going to leave my job and try to get on UC for a little bit. Basically here in PA I am not allowed to drive and my mother has been driving me to work for the past two years. But she can't do it anymore so I have to leave my job.
Do you guys think that is a valid UC claim? In PA you can collect UC if you can't get to work anymore through no fault of your own. Which is essentially what I am filing under. I figure if my brother could quit his job at a part time position and collect I should be able to quit my full time position and collect. Does that sound reasonable?

Either way i'm sure my employer is going to end up appealing my claim if I got approved.

Just wondering. I'm under SSDI (Social Security Disabilty INs).. I have never heard of the other. In IL I do not think that would be reason for a claim. I have no idea in PA..

Really do your research before you give your notice. I'm Canadian but had to leave my job in 2006. It was a gradual process(had a seizure while driving to work in 2001>lost my licence>my husband drove 40 min out of his way to and from work for 5 years>finally had a really bad seizure and broke three ribs in 2006> that was really the end of my work career. But because I didn't get a doctor's note, and even though I live in the country, with no businesses in walking distance to apply to - unable to drive, work, and having seizures regularly, I don't "qualify" for UI. Because apparently you need someone else's permission to quit, you can't just do it. So make sure you don't leave your job before you're sure that everything's okay. And talking to your doc wouldn't hurt either. Hopefully the rules work differently in PA. Best of luck with this!

Yeah I did research quite a bit and I talked with my sister who is a lawyer. I didn't think about getting a note from my neuro though. That might not be a bad idea. Though I doubt I would be able to get one without actually making a visit to see him. Hmmm. Thanks Horsefeatherz!

urza3277, fingers crossed for you here. I am in Saskatchewan and aside from having memory problems making bus routes a minor nightmare, lost drivers license, and most seizures I get are during the day, I have been denied 3 different disability claims. My fingers are crossed for you here. Pretty sure Pennsylvania is more caring than Saskatchewan; the two states I have lived in US certainly have been... good luck.

Hey cadsgj,

I thought Canada was supposed to be better with social services than the US? I am sorry to hear that. Did you finally get to claim anything?
Yeah it makes me real nervous but I have to do it.
Cheers!
