This is the first forum I have participated in. I have tonic-clonic seizures and take three different medications to control them. We've had problems since August of 2013 getting them back under control, but we're getting close, the doctors are working hard. Like others, the biggest frustration I have is when all of those MRIs return with nothing (I should be happy) and when the EEGs come back with no results. For those of you who are new to these tests, please know that there are many of us who share those frustrations and have for a very long time. I'm glad there is this forum. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it.

I apologize. I forgot to add that I was diagnosed when I was 8 and I'm now 58. All of this time I've been questioning myself because of the results of my EEGs. I've only had a hand full of EEGs showing any type of results. 50 years of frustration. I never knew that there were this many others. This is a very special group of people.

You are very welcome to C.W.E. you will find good people here who will try to help you, sit back and look around.

Hi Dave B, welcome!!

Yes, a normal MRI is a good thing (and that's the result for the majority of folks with epilepsy). A clean EEG is frustrating, but that can happen when the seizures are too brief, or the abnormal brainwaves occur too deep in the brain to register. There are plenty of CWE members who definitely have epilepsy and have never had a positive EEG, so you're in good company. :) I think coming to terms with epilepsy means coming to terms with the fact that it remains so elusive a precise cause (and precise treatment) can be.

I hope you and your docs can figure out the right balance of medications to get your t-c's under control. I don't know if you've ben able to identify any secondary triggers, but if you're interested, there's helpful information here about ways to tackle that process: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f22/proactive-prescription-epilepsy-1254/

Best,
Nakamova
