My 23 yr old daughter was recently diagnosed with simple partial. She was put on Keppra XR 500mg. She did well on that (1 mo). Before Keppra xr she would have numerous seizures daily. With 500mg dose she had days were she had no seizures and days when she had 1 or 2. Her memory and concentration improved. The doctor raised her dose to 1000 mg/ day. It has been 2 wks and she is having 2-3 seizures/day and her memory is back to being foggy. Is there a period of adjustment after increasing dosage that can increase the number of seizures and if so how long?

hello and I am hoping this increase in meds will work for your daughter. Is she keeping a daily journal of her feelings, type of seizure, difference in her daily routine (sleep and food), etc.? I know that can cause different side effects as well so if she is stressed with the change at all that could contribute to her seizure activity as well. :( the foggy feeling I felt when I first started keppra so I think that may be do to the increase in dose but will hopefully level out. However if she hasn't already I would have her calling the doctor to touch base about the increased seizures. Good luck and keep in touch with this group. We are here to help if we can or just listen if you need to vent. :hugs:

Thanks jenbayly17. Did you notice an increase of seizure activity when Keppra dosage was increased? I can't find any info on this. I don't know if it's normal or not.

I just wanted to share my experience on Keppra. It did give me seizure control but I couldn't tolerate ALL the side effects.

There are many on this forum who take Keppra and do well with it.

Luckily I have not had any seizures since I started keppra but I also have been on gabapentin with it. My doctor wants to drop the gabapentin eventually but I have been taking these two meds together because I was in a big med change and so he kept the gabapentin because I had to be off of the tegretol xr I was on and he didn't want to remove them both at the same time. Is your daughter on keppra alone? I hope things are going better and that she gets more answers.:rose:

Hi cottongrubs, welcome to CWE!

Med/dose transitions are often hard on the brain, so it may be that your daughter's brain is still adjusting to the increase. But it could also be that the higher dose has made things worse. It happens sometimes. Let the neuro know that the higher dose isn't working out. Maybe backing off the dose a bit will help -- is there a 750mg interval she could try?
