Please excuse me, I am a cut and paste kinda gal and there is no reason to redo my intro. So the 3rd paragraph is from my intro. I owe it to other women and men that have been on long term seizure medications. I have been able to lead a productive life because of theses meds. I have had and excellent Neurologist and I never CC'ed him my bone density's because I never knew that seizure meds contribute to annihilating Vitamin D uptake & calcium in your body. I didn't know how fragile my bones were getting. I love to research, have to hold myself back. My doc's were not advising me to mitigate my bone density (my oncologist was the one that wanted to have a deeper conversation, I feel)...or I didn't hear them..:ponder: So here goes...Would love some comments...I hope by sharing my experience I can help turn another woman or man is going down the same path I am. This next bit from my Introduction to site....That is where the Cut and Paste Gal comes in...

I have had Complex Partial seizures since the age of 13. I have a bad fall an concussion from fall from horse in 1968. I have taken phenobarbital, dilantin, & carbamazepine since the age of 17 when I had a grand mal seizure. Always taken the phenobarb, but the dilantin for the first 20 years and then at the age of 37 switched to phenobarb and Tegratol...Carbamazapine when went generic. I knew at 40 from a ski injury on my rotator cuff that my bones were not the bones of a 40 year old. I started taking calcium. In my mid 40's I started also taking calcium citrate, 1000 IU of vitamin D due to RA. I have been Osteopenia for all 3-4 bone Density tests. I have another bone density this week. Have a feeling that I am Osteoporotic now. I just said felling...vrs feeling and that is what happened 7 week ago. I was hiking with friends and we were walking on a down log in the trail and I started to loose my balance and I jumped vrs fall on my hip, shoulder, ribs...landed it, but ended up with Tibial Pleateau fractures in both legs. Sware Word! Just started walking this week. It is very hard but just grinding on. I am not willing to just stop living. So I have made the decision to start taking a med to build my bones and do a Restorative Yoga class in my home town. I have had 3 fractures in the last 5 years and I am only 57. Yes they are sports injuries, but my recent fractures would not have happened to a woman with strong, healthy bones. BC

Hello Blithe! I too am suffering from recurrent fractures, but fortunately its only small toe of mine! But I am only 33 and and keep thinking what will happen to me when I get 53!! I take calcium and no Vit D yet as I think I have lots from the sun daily. I am planning to get my bone density checked by some good doctor (u know, who is interested in checking the bone density and not the density of my purse). U know, pregnancy makes us depleted in Calcium amd E worsens the scenario. God bless Us! And my dear Eric u did not reply to my message.............................How are u?

Good Morning and welcome aboard!! I hope you enjoy your time here. There are lots of advice and shoulders should you need either :)

Thank you for your greetings. Having been in a wheel chair for seven weeks has been a bit of a wake up call. If I can help anyone to know what questions to ask your neurologist concerning bone health then that is good. A good baseline bone density, Vit D level are necessary for long term anti seizure med users.
