I would just like to introduce myself.
I am 65 years old. I have had these *turns* for most of my life. As a teen I was diagnosed with petit mall after a EEG. These turns dont happen very often. I can go months without any. Then could have 2 -3 in a week. They are very minor. Can happen at any time, and are over in seconds. Though they do leave me *spaced* out for a while. I have had them when I am with other people and no-one ever noticed. Last year I had another EEG - and nothing was found. I am not on medication, and dont feel the need for any. But I would like to know what triggers them and why.
So what happens? I have no warning. Suddenly my eyes seem to dart from one side to the other, I feel anxious I grab to hold some thing. And its all over. Except for the spaced out feeling.
So I am here to see if I can find any answeres.

Hi marianne, welcome to CWE!

It can help to keep a seizure/symptom diary, even if your "turns" are relatively rare. Make a note of what time of day they happen, and any other factors you can think of -- how you felt right before, were you hungry or tired or sick o stressed, etc. Sometimes you can find a pattern or identify a trigger that way. The #1 trigger is fatigue, but they can be things like low blood sugar or food sensitivities or infections -- pretty much anything that might stress the brain/body on one way or another.

Some folks have found that the Modified Atkins Diet can help with petit mal seizures, so you could give that a shot if you're so inclined.

Best,
Nakamova

Thankyou for the welcome, and advice. Keeping a diary is a good idea. Thats the first step I shall take.

Hi Marianne, welcome. Nak gave you some wonderful advice. There's a lot of friendly, knowledgeable folks here. :)

Hi and welcome,

You have found the best place to get the inform. that will help you.

I have learned more here than with my Dr.

I'm 60 years old, was diag. when I was 18.

I stop whatever I'm doing and stare ahead. I too have had seizures when the others in my office didn't know.

Wishing you the best.

jyearta thankyou for the welcome. I am so glad to find someone else who, like me has unseen seizures. I feel like a bit of a fraud at times. Especialy as I can go a whole year without anything. I was also about 18yrs when I was first diagnosed with them. I did get them more frequent in those days, and looking back, I think shyness and anxiety had a lot to do with them. Do yours last long, and do you know what brings them on?

My seizures have changed in the amt. of seiz., intense, length.

I had never hear of a trigger until I joined this forum, even through I knew that at these times my seizures were worse.

Having an infection, over the count vitamins. loss of sleep, antibic. and stress.

I'm so thankful that my have gotten so much better. I am on Dilantin and Clonazepam. along with B6, B12, Folic acid, calicum and Vit. D compounded.

I know what you mean about feeling like a fraud, it seems that most people think of E. or seizures has Gran Mal.

With me I stop what ever I doing and stare ahead, I will smack my lips, swallow hard for several times. When I was working I would have lipstick up to my nose and down my chin from the lip smacking. I would get to the bathroom clean myself up and go back to work. I was luckily were my office was at.

It does seem that there are many different ways that people react when having a seizure. Mine do seem to happen when I *overload* the brain. I am usualy doing something - watching TV - on the computer, even washing dishes - and at the same time I am planning my grandsons birthday or a day out with friends, in my head - but I am deep in thought. Suddenly it seems like my eyes dart to the side, unbalance me, and I grab onto something. It all happens so quickly that I find it hard to describe. I often feel a little unbalanced for a few minutes, and spaced out.
