Hello everyone, I have had epilepsy since the age of 5. i am now 41. I found out a month ago that I have Antiphospholipid syndrome and have to take Plavix. The MRI showed that I had multiple mini strokes due to clots. In the past month I have been on three seizure meds, Lamictal, Trileptil and now Topamax. I have had bad side effects from the first two. They also have me on Celexa 40. mg for depression. I had not been on medicine since i was 24 and had not had a seizure until recently since then eaither. I have grand mal - tonic-clonic. HOw does Topamax do as far as side effects?

Hi sherr66, welcome to the forum. :hello:

As I'm sure you know, everyone tolerates drugs differently. For my wife though, Topamax was a no go. She didn't last two weeks on it as it increased her seizure activity.

:hello: Sher!

Welcome to CWE! Unfortunately with all AEDs
it's a trial and error basis. So what works for others
may not work for you, everyone reacts differently
and how it functions and its effects also are all
varied because everyone has differing types of
seizures. Some have zero tolerance, some have
bad side effects, and to others it's a miracle drug.
Same holds true for other AEDs
available out there.

Hi sherr! Welcome to CWE. I totally agree with Brain and Bernard on this one. Medicines work differently for different people.

Welcome Sher

You may want to search out side effects here
http://www.drugs.com/

Topamax has one really nasty one but kind of rare and unusual. Glaucoma/blindness. If you experience excruciating eye pain, call your neruo ASAP. This happened to me. My eyes huts so bad! I went to the eye doc had them checked but he couldn't find anything wrong. If I hadn't gotten a letter of warning from the EFA, I hate to think what would have happened. I stopped the medication and the pain stopped.

Welcome to CWE. I am not personally familiar with Topamax, but I am sure you will find plenty of others who do have experience with it.

You can do a search for threads about Topamax at the top of the page. I tried it and got 150 results.
