Hi all,
Is going to college too late for me.
Iam going to be 58 soon was considering on finishing college . Some 30 odd years ago I had to stop for family reasons and never went back, thus having low paying jobs as a result.
Just wondering what others think...Cheers.

Thankyou, that video is very uplifting and makes me wanting more than ever to complete my college .

Go for it, rich. Life is all about being the best we can be, and learning is a vital part of achieving that goal.

Hey yes. I took a few years break in the middle of my BA pursuit and i had started later than all the others to start. It was cool though, most classes had others even older that i so i felt good about it. Go for it.

Rich, I think that's awesome! Go for it, and don't let those younger folks intimidate you. :D

I've often thought about going back to school but then I remind myself I was never a very good student to begin with. I'm sure that's probably still the case..lol.

My guess is you'll be surprised at how easy some aspects of college are compared to when you were younger. You have a wealth of life experience and maturity behind you, and because of this you will likely be better able to determine what you need to know from various readings, what is noteworthy from class lectures, and will be much more efficient at using study time.
When I was in university there were a few older students in some of my classes, and I often noted how efficient they were with their studying and assignments, and always had so much to offer. When we had to form study groups or discussion groups for a project, getting into a group with a so-called older student was "the" thing to do because we would learn so much more!

that sounds kind of exciting .I never thought of that I might be of some value to younger minds.:)

Not sure yet, was majoring Food service management Chef. but that went south since I lost the sense of smell and taste. perhaps a 2 year certificate on a certain major but still looking at whats out there.

Never too late!! Knowledge is power. You can teach old dogs new tricks, sometimes it just takes a little more patience.

Its always good for the brain to get back to studying and having some certs of study is always to your benefit when trying to get any job.

My dad went to college when he was in his 50's. He didn't get a degree, but he got a technical certification with a 4.0 GPA.

Rich,

If I remember correctly, Socrates said that the proper age to begin the study of philosophy was 60. Just make sure you get your money's worth. Check out the department website where you want to go. Look at the class descriptions of classes being currently offered (not the catalog), as well as the interests of the professors you will be studying with. You might be surprised.

I don't know what you had in mind, but here's a 2 year master's program they just might consider you for. It's a short version of their regular undergrad. You'd have to ask. http://www.sjc.edu/academics/graduate/

For a four your undergraduate however, I'd suggest Thomas Aquinas College, although St. John's would be great too. In either of those programs your experience will be an absolute asset, you might not be the only mature student, and you will be able to hang out with the "tutors" (professors). The kids would be much more grown up without a doubt.
