Lamictal an Tegretol

Does anyone happen to know if you can drink alcoholic on the drug combo lamicral an tegretol. I am on 175 mg of Lamictal an 50mg of tegretol only started tegretol on Tuesday working way up to 200mg.

I on lamac I have odd drink,I not really drink that much I go straight in hangover stage.Dont think I been actively told me but have told me glass wine a day,I hate Laine.tegritol I don't know

Hi catlover,

You shouldn't drink alcoholic beverages while taking tegretol or lamictal. It can cause dizziness, poor judgement and can effect your nervous system which can lead to seizures for some people. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Generally it's a good idea to stay away from alcohol or at least drink very moderately when on anti-seizure meds. However, everyone's different -- I am on Lamictal and have no problem having a mixed drink or two, or a few glasses of wine or beer. I do make sure to stay hydrated, pace myself and not drink on an empty stomach.

Catlover, it's particularly important to avoid alcohol or other drugs while you're ramping up on a medication. That way you can get a better sense for how the tegretol and the lamictal make you feel in terms of seizure control and side effects without having anything else in the mix. If you do plan on drinking proceed with extreme caution -- maybe just have a non-alcoholic beer (which has a tiny amount of alcohol) and see how you feel. Don't drink on an empty stomach, go slow, stay hydrated, make sure you're sleeping properly, etc..

Like you nak .i will have drink never get drunk lamac never caused any problems.Never see point drinking to get dead drunk and if I do feel squizzy I stop booze I know proberlybe hang over.I have thank me maker because I been slush if booze make me happy no hang over.i bit of wine at table larger top that larger and lemonade.snowball is lovely.i would thought the tegratol may be problem.When I did take tegratol it made me feel awful but booze may have made me ill Anyhow.All drug company will put a a rider on instruction no booze.lamac and tegratol mix together will turn into another' chemical compound.Ultimatly it You who takes it and then each one of us has different side effects when comes down to booze.If Just lamac I would say knock yourself out but tegratol different story.
