OK. I have a questionthat has been lurking in my mind for quite some time. Alright... I have Grand Mal and Partail epilepsy, and well... I have been with my partner for 9 years and they have seen numerous seizures from me. You would think that a person would know that if I don't feel quite right in what ever manner that I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR!!! But for instance this morning... I have a headache and I am tired and I have the metallic sense going on... we also need something from the grocery store... I am expected to go since they "just woke up"... but the stuff is needed now. When they need help which is daily because of their Fibromyalgia I do what I can and let them lay down all day. Is it just me that them not helping me is insensitive??I mean I know they care, they have been right beside me through all my seizures... but..... what about cases like this? I kinda feel sad about this.

Sorry to hear you feel sad,

Not safe for you to drive if E not fully I control……?
Auras can be warning of seizure (do u keep diary?) ….you could hurt yourself, well, someone, literally no one is safe if you have seizure in traffic....

Sounds like more seizure education is needed for those close to you and I am so glad to hear you do say they are caring, so I hope they are open to - getting educated on the dangers of potential seizures

great info available you could print out and leave around the house (good toliet read)....would be happy to provide u some links...

time to get the crew EDUCATED

Yes, more education is needed here.. lol.. thank you for responding. Omg I haven't kept a diary in a long time... I should though ... the grand mal ones are more controlled but the partials are not! I have them everyday several times a day. I would love the links!!! I wish there was some magical potion out there to give people so they knew what was like EXACTLY to be a person that has seizures and has to be on barbs... it isn't a wonderful feeling... you live daily afraid of having one! But no one could 100% know unless they have it. I just hope with more education they can get a better clue!

I used to have multiple CP seizures a day and a few TC's (grand mal) a month, but I WASN'T DRIVING during that time. That could be very dangerous, even deadly, so your partner does need some education.

Here is some good info on seizures.

Also, maybe this would be a good wake up call for your partner. It did happen here in the Denver area:Woman charged in Colorado crash was told not to drive

I'm actually supprised that you can drive?

The states have laws about how long you can go without having a seizure before they will let you behind the wheel again. I live in PA and here it's 6 months.

In the 9 years that I've had epilepsy I've never even come close to being able to get my license again. It's really hard but it's something I've just learned to deal with.

Mention this to him and he might have second thoughts about things.

I will read these... thank you :) I also will share these with my kids too... I finally got my son in law to get what I needed (after some resistance) I don't deal with this much trouble with them all the time... I just know that I should NEVER have too... thank you so much for the links :)

Yes it is 6 months after a seizure... they don't pull your license... you're just told not to. I do not drive that often that is why I ask my son in law or others to help me and there are times that it will cause an issue. Or not just driving... same with house work .... I have had moments of incredible partials and auras and have found out he had been complaint that I didn't help... I know that people just don't understand 100% but they should have some understanding when someone says something. I have one heck of a lazy son in law...
But my partner actually called the epilepsy foundation today! (Finally after almost 9 years of being together) Hopefully they will get fully educated and pass it along to others ... my daughter and son in law very well may come along too.

Hey Shannon,

That is WONDERFUL news to hear your partner is stepping up/in to learn more...!! Hopefully the rest of the clan will join in to :)

Med not controlling your seizures, what does your doc say?

Seizure diary will be a big time help in future, seriously because they are too easy to forget and it will show you patterns or possibly triggers...u could keep separate one (just a notebook with your name on it) , for those around u to fill in when they see something out of the norm.....I keep one for my Son..

Simple overview of seizures... an easy start/read and print friendly....I used this one for Epilepsy Awareness Day (Purple Day) this year at my office.

Some more easy print leaflets.

Yes, I definitely need to keep a diary on these seizures.... I'm just having way too many partials... I wish they were more controlled like my Grand Mals!!!
My Dr. has attempted to increase my Lamictal, but it was causing SEVERE paranoia/anxiety to the point of no sleep due to the fear... I talked to him and he said take it earlier and I did but I still got the side effects now I'm just too afraid to take the increased portion I will have to tell him maybe I need a new Med all together ..

Shannon, have u tried any natural supplements in conjunction with your meds? Ever had your vitamin and mineral levels checked?

No, I haven't tried any natural supplements.... I have had my levels checked...the one thing that keeps coming up is my potassium level... they get low sometimes... other than that everything seems to be just fine.
