Hi! I am new to this site and joined to do some research for my son. He is 32 years old and has had epilepsy since he was 11 years old. Over the last three years he has been unstable and unable to drive. I thought this might be a nice forum for him to meet people. He has his own home but has been pretty homebound since he cannot drive right now. I think being able to meet people who truly understand the impact of epilepsy would be great for him. What do you guys think?

Having your son join this forum would be great for him. There are many here on CWE who cannot drive because of seizures. I've had E for over 30 years and for many of those years, I could not drive, either. Nor could I hold down a job because of the seizures. Plus I was married and raised two healthy children who witnessed many seizures while their father traveled.

So I think it's a good idea to have your son meet others online who DO definitely understand all about epilepsy.

Well welcome to C.W.E. this is the place to be at lest from my point of view, there are people here who understand you, who know what you are going through but one of the most important is they give you support, unconditional support. This could be a good place for you as well, being a mother and minder is not easy either and we know it, even your son does even though he may not say it (I never said it to my mother). Tell him he is very welcome just as you are.

I am near your son's age and even though I am controlled and doing great, I like to hang around here. I would suggest he join.

This would be a great site for your son to join.

I can't work or drive because of my epilepsy and it's nice to know that so many other people are the same way too. This can make him see that he's not the only one who goes through these things in his life.

It's also good to get information about what goes on when taking different medicines or what happens during seizures. He can also see, and get advice, on how to deal with them.

Hope to see him on here soon!

About 15 y years ago I met a bunch of ppl on line fron a epilepsy support group who all lived around atlanta and we met at underground Atlanta most were controlled and those who weren't were able to take public transit were we met and had lunch.

Welcome to both of you! Finally peeps from my home state. This site will be of great help to you and your son. I found it and it's awesome to both have contact with not only people that understand what I go through daily, but also what we all go through with the med changes and what they do to not only our minds, but our body's. I've been on a few meds that have altered my mental state to the point that I was unrecognizable. I was an RN and had my first grand-mal at a patients bedside. One minute I was assessing him and next thing I was in the ER end being asked my name and what year it was and who's the President. They were concerned I had a concussion given how hard I hit the floor and I was concerned I peed my pants. I had to give up my nursing career ( all I wanted to do ) and move in with my parents. The meds and the grand-mals that followed really messed with my cognitive skills, my ability to do drug calculations in a heartbeat in my head, and short term memory. Only the people I've met here are the one's that get it. You as a caregiver will find support here and your son will find that things that he has gone through everyone here has too. So welcome.

Welcome!

Noob here but I'd be glad to help in any way I can. Epilepsy has had a huge effect on my adult life so I can relate to what he is going through.
