my bf just recently had a seizure after not having one for 6 yrs and not takin meds for 6 yrs. we been together bout a month and he had just told me about this the night before so scared crap outta me and kids. pure fluke he was even with us bc he wasnt going to go with us i jus thank God he was tho. but hes trying to work thru the pain in his arm and wont go to the dr. theyve checked it out at the hospital as he was there 2 full days before being released but he works where i do as a mixer and lifting the heavy ingredients is not helping him at all its making his arm worse day by day. i thought maybe bursitis but he didnt fall too terribly hard. tried layin down before he hit the concrete and theres no bruising. it happened a week ago today. he wont see dr bc of bill and not wanting time off of work bc of big bill he has coming but im afraid he will cause more permanent damage. what can i get him to do that will help with pain? tried ibuprofen and muscle rub. not helping. would alternating hot and cold help? any suggestions would be great i just cant bare seeing him in so much pain. its his arm thru to his neck.

Gday cgsgirl ,

That`s no good about his siezure , i got knocked out once unloading the truck and buggerd my neck , nurophen plus works fairly well for me ( got to be the plus though just the nurophen is usless on me )

wish you both all the best .

Get back on the AED to make sure he doesn't have another seizure. Having a TC seizure IS
going to take time to recover from. So make sure he gets rest and alternate ice and then heat to the muscle to help alleviate the pain. Can he get Tylenol 3?

Hey cgsgirl --

Alternating hot and cold might help, but the main thing is not to make things worse. If there's a muscle tear or strain, the best way for it to heal (and to prevent more serious damage) is to avoid using the injured arm. If he insists on using the arm despite the risk of more serious damage, he could try wearing a shoulder brace -- basically a velcro wraparound that helps protect the shoulder muscles. You might be able to find one at the drugstore, or a sports equipment store. A sling might help -- even if it he just wears it when he's not lifting things -- to remind him to protect the arm.

With the hot/cold, here's the routine to try: Ten minutes of heat, followed by ten minutes of ice. Alternate for 30 minutes. Do it a half-dozen times a day if possible. If sleeping makes it worse, he should take an ibuprofen or two before going to bed.

He could try some foods that can help with reducing inflammation -- pineapple and sour cherry juice. (Marathon runners use them before and after a race).

If he can't see a doctor, is there a chance he could see a physical therapist? The p.t. clinic might be able to evaluate the damage, and they can also do an ultrasound procedure which helps ease the pain.

thank you guys i will try the suggestions with him and i hope something works. i kinda thought about the pt too but he jus sees things as another bill so its frustrating. i just want to see him better and not make things worse.
