Hey everybody, I'm Jamie. I've had epilespsy since I was a senior in high school and I'm now 36. I don't know how many different kinds of seizures meds I have been on but there have been many. I'm taken the generics for Trileptal and Zonegran right now. On the Trileptal I take 2 300mg pills in the morning and 3 300 mg pills at night. The Zonegran I take 4 100mg caps. At the start these had an effect on me but I finally got use to them. I'm starting to have them more often now and it may be time to change meds or I hope that will slow them down.
I'm glad I found this website and look forward to hearing from everyone.

Hi Jamie, and welcome!

There is all sorts of good stuff here -- info, support, different forums for venting, chatting, asking questions, and just hanging out. I hope you will explore and take advantage of everything the site has to offer.

It sounds like you've been riding the AED rollercoaster for awhile now. I hope you find a good med or treatment plan that works consistently for you. One of the approaches people have found helpful is to try and identify and eliminate potential seizure triggers. Folks have found success with certain diets, and also with techniques like neurofeedback -- you can search on the site for more information about these and other coping strategies.

Best,
Nakamova

Hi Jamie - Glad you found us. It is a great source and I hope that you find some useful tips here and there.

We had a terrible time with AEDs and now my daughter is med free. She started having seizures at the age of 14. She is now 17, and we are controlling them by making nutritional changes, supplements for brain and body health, and have done neurofeedback.

I'm glad to hear that yall are controlling them and she is no longer on meds. I'm going to read "Rebecca's Story" and see if there is something I can learn from there. This sounds like having to stick to a certain diet or staying off of certain foods. I'm divorced and a single father of two children; I'm not the best in the kitchen so the easiest thing for me sometimes is out to eat and probably the worst place you could go is McDonald's (my son's place). Anyway I will look into this and try to get back into dating but something about when a women hears you have epilespsy all of a sudden they don't seem as interested but that is a whole different thing. thanks Jamie

Hello there! I'm fairly new here too

Good site though, and loads of people to listen and give sound advice.

Jump right in :woot:

Jamie - there are some great sites when you decide to make changes in your nutritional habits. I don't call it a diet, as that has a negative image. It really is a major life choice, to eat healthy. Think in terms of what was put on this planet for us to eat, and don't stray away from that. I know MacD's is "easy", but if you are sensitive to certain foods it can be a disaster. Plus, for the most part, it can't claim to give you the nutrition that your brain and body needs to function.

A bit of difficulty in exchange for improvement in your quality of life IMO is worth it.
