:e: I just wanted to share my story and maybe help anyone out there suffering with epilepsy and parents dealing with epilepsy, along with side effects of my medications.
My name is Kirby and i have suffered from pretty much every type of siezure and every side effect from medication, hopefully this might help atleast 1 person
When i was 7 a basketball ring collapsed landing on my head bringing on epilepsy, 3 months later i began having siezures. I have gone a year without having a siezure to some points living in hospital having 1200 full body drop siezures and 5 grand mal siezures daily. I have been through 4 different highschools, dropped classes after having siezures in class and being embarrased, and in 2009 my highschool senior year when i started having full body drop siezures i was told i had to wear a helmet to school..... NOT HAPPENING.... Life may seem dull and hard at some points but we are no different then other people, from my personal opinion and to all the parents out there, please dont baby your teenaged kids about epilepsy, it does suck to have siezures but the worst thing about epilepsy is being treated differently by family and friends...
I still have siezures but it doesnt stop me from living a normal life, i played college basketball for 6 months and now im playing college rugby, i have good relationships, epilepsy has become like achne to me, sure its an inconvenience but nothing people should show pity for.
I love my life and epilepsy has made me who i am, people apologise for my condition but i wouldnt change a thing, adversity has made me stronger
SIDE EFFECTS
Keppra: "keppra's rage" i went phsycotic taking keppra, i always felt so angry at everyone, i got suspended from school for fights, i used to beat on my 2 older bigger brothers until they were scared of me, it got so bad to the point i used to go for runs at night fighting the urge to take a knife to my brother, i know it sounds dramatic but i wouldnt suggest keppra, or if you notice side effects get of it...... i did some research after changing medications and there are cases of people taking shot guns to there grandparents, getting so angry all the time and horrible things
CARBATROL: this literally nearly killed me, after starting carbatrol i started having full body drop siezures, and as they got worse my dosage got increased, getting worse and worse the dosage went up, eventually i moved into hospital having 1200 a day along with up to 5 gran mals and they gave me 3 months to live saying eventually id be in a constant state of siezing until my heart gave out, 2 days later they switched my meds and i walked out, havnt had a drop siezure since
Sodium Divalproex
The perfect drug for me, again everyone is different but i have no side effects. thank you for listening and feel free to message me
