hi everyone. I'm not eeven sure if i have epilepsy. I'm just really confused. I've had these episodes where my head would shake really fast, while im sleeping or falling asleep. I'm fully conscious at the time, but i cant move anything until the shaking is over. it usally last mayb 30 seconds, if that much. Its been happeneing for about 3years now. I spoke to my neurologist, and she looks at me like i'm crazy. Told me she thinks i need to see a pshycologist! i'm in the process of finding a new neurologist, because I know this is medically related, and im tired of being called crazy by my doctor. Does anyone know what this is? has anyone expeirenced anything similar? I've had people whitness it before, and they looked a bit frightned. please help!. I did research and the closest thing i found to my symptoms were frontal lobe epilepsy. is this it? I'm on this forum for answers, cause my doctor just doesnt know.

Hi I'mconfused, welcome to CWE!

Obviously there's no way to diagnose at a distance, but it does sound like something neurological is going on, and it's worth being persistent about finding a neurologist who will listen. Since your symptoms occasionally happen while you are sleeping, you might ask about having a sleep study done.

Write down everything you can about your symptoms -- when they started, how often they occur, if they've changed in any way since onset 3 years ago, if you've taken any medications for it or other conditions. Any head injuries in the past? Any infections? Migraines? In addition, if you can identify any triggers or contributing factors (things like stress, fatigue, etc.) that can be helpful.

In the meantime, try to find ways to de-stress before going to sleep. Avoid stimulants such as caffeine. Try playing calming music, and/or doing progressive relaxation exercises to see if they help.

Best,

Hey Nakamova,

thanks for responding so soon. I didn't have head trauma, but I do have really bad head aces at times. I am currently diagnosed with a condition called pseudotumor cerebri. That basically means "false tumor", my brain is acting like it has a tumor, but there is none. There's no specific cause for this. And it was found because there was swelling in my optic nerve. I am on diamox to help with this. And I have been getting spinal taps as treatment. I've had about six so far (very painful). Intially I assumed the shaking was a sideefftect of the illness. But my doctor says otherwise. intially The episode usually happened when I'm really tired. But now it jst happens sparatically, sometimes months apart. They've been happening closer together now, which is why I'm getting a lil worried. The 1st time someone whitnessed it, they were very afraid. My head shook really fast, and turned to the left. I've had eep studies done, but it was ineffective because the episode didn't occur while I was being studied. I'm still looking for other opi ions, and will begin to write the sypmtoms down as you said. I jus really hope watever it Is, is caught soon, so it doesn't get anyworse. Thanks again forur advice.
