I made a post earlier this morning about my son having to stay home due to a possible MRSA outbreak he has. He woke up wednesday morning with a slightly swollen eye area. Just near his eye brow area. I sent him to school, and showed the school nurse the eye, just to see what she thought. She said it looked like a "pimple".

After school yesterday, I see its getting worse! I called the drs office and they saw him last night. They prescribed him a sulfa medication, that he started last night... and then again this morning. He has to take it twice a day. So far, he's had 2 doses.

This is what he looks like today... Im getting kind of worried... I know when I had this my eye looked worse before it got better. The nurse said If I had any concerns to give them a call... should I call again? Or should I see how it goes over the night? I just worry becuase I think they are open til 7pm. I dont want it to get really bad!

here he is today... his was taken like 15 minutes ago....as you can see his nose area around the eyes is swollen alot!

I am not a parent but if it was me I would ring or take him back to see them.

I agree, better to be "overprotective" than underprotective.

I did call the drs back and tell them its the same as it was this morning. Im just now waiting to hear back from the drs office again! I hate the waiting!

How are things going. Is the little lad ok

Ok so PLEASE read about oregono oil. I know it's crazy but my co-workers son battled MRSA big time. This worked! She diluted it with coconut oil and rubbed it on. It's very strong and can burn. She gets herpies on her lip and puts it straight on but says it burns; so for her kid she mixed with the coconut oil. She also but a couple drops in water and made him drink it. Just look into it. I'm not suggesting you use alternative medicine rather than what the docs are telling you to do. But this is something you can do in addition. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well last night I ended up taking him into the ER. The swelling went from his eye area to his forehead and It freaked me out! I couldnt go to sleep knowing the swelling was spreading! So I called the drs office, who has a on-call dr, and spoke with a nurse. She said it was "boarderline" as to either go to the ER or wait til the morning to be seen in the office. She even called the on call dr, and he said the same thing. I couldnt sleep, so I thought what the heck, I will take him to the ER tonight! We got there around midnight, and had a dr look at it. He said he's on the right medication, its just going to take time to get the infection to go away, and in the meantime, dont be suprised if he does get more swelling. :( But he said to use LOTS of warm compresses, and use the ointment we have here at home. In the meantime, we got home around 2am, and went right to bed. Luckly my husband stayed home to help me with the younger two kids for school, and he took them while I got to sleep alittle bit. I so needed it.

Anyways, he is at home again today. The dr said for sure to keep him home, and make sure we do the warm compresses alot. He said for sure it should be better by the time monday rolls around and he can return to school!

Im just praying it gets better as time goes on!

How's it look now? Hope he's feeling okay. And you too.

to me it looks like start of a boil,as it situated in the eye area you needs be careful. i am RN (or was)so in my case i would deal with it myself and keeping area real clean and doing as dr said hot compress then let nature take its course yellow head then it burst..you doing all right things, looking at picture it dont look to bad,but you his mum and mum always have 6th sense so go with what your gut telling you to do

He has beautiful eyelashes, I'm so jealous!

My 14 yr old had something like that a few years ago. We think it was a bug bite.

Hope he's back to his usuall self soon. :)

Thank you everyone! I should take a photo of what it looks like today.
Since last night when we visited the ER, the ER dr told us to use the warm compresses alot and Ive been doing that since this morning. Some of the swelling has gone done ALITTLE in the forhead area, but since using the warm compresses, the area is forming more like a circle shape around the sore area. They did culture it, but that will take a couple of days to get back. My gut is telling me its MRSA. Something I dont want, but based off of experience, thats what it looks like to me.

What frustrates me the most is that the PA on wednesday gave him sulfa only because she didnt think he would handle taking the capsules. Little did we know, when we take him in today, that those capsules can be taken apart! There is no way Im going to take my kids to another PA there again! Its like wasting a co-pay, and my money on a medication that I clearly can see didnt help! Could have saved me $30!

Ok, here is a picture of what it looks like today... looks like its wanting to form a head like a boil does... all we can do now is treat it with warm compresses, the medication and see what happens over the weekend. Gosh this makes my stomach hurt and heart ache to look at this... :( I cant believe the swelling is still like this two days after we first took him into the drs office... he just doesnt look like the same little boy!

He says it hurts when he raises his eye brows, but when the dr touched it, he didnt cry. Now earlier today before going to the drs, was when I was putting a warm compress on it, he cried. He kept saying it hurt. My heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces. All that kept going through my head was what the ER dr told me.... "Make sure you do lots of warm compresses, and massage the area so it will form a "head".

Im just hoping and praying the Clindamyacin will work!

Poor baby. :(

We've had staph a few times. The areas were red, hot to the touch, and very painful. My husband felt like he needed to pop a few on our kids. I don't know who was more upset, me or my sons.

I hope he feels like himself again soon. He's in my thoughts.

Thank you. I just looked at it again and its red, but gosh it does not look good. :( He gets another round of medication here in the next few hours. This medication worked well for me, Im praying it does the same for him too!

When I last had it, I didnt have to drain it, it just went away on its own. I hope his turns out the same way.

Kristen,
That does look painful, I'm sure it's never good to see your child sick or in pain.
I hope the medication helps & the swelling goes back down soon.
