Grand Mal activity controlled by medicine since the age of 13. Now 45.

Do not have a neurologist.

Started out on Phenobarbitol and Dilantin in 1979. Was changed to Normal Depakote in the late 80's and ER a few years ago. MD tests blood every 6 months to test medication level (Depakote ER) I assume for my liver. My doctors when I was young spoke to my mother and since have not enlightened me any better than her. I am resigned to the fact that I will always be limited to prescriptions and cannot just leave for a day let alone week without it.:twocents::brain::brain:

Had seizures when I was a teenager (always preceded by an aura) that were my fault as I was not constant with my medicine. Since that time I have only had one seizure. It was eleven years ago during a stressful period of my life as I had just moved across the country following my career. Not a single aura since.

I really want to know more about this condition and have been told that the tremors, mood swings and weight gain that plague me are a side effect of the Depakote ER and that I just need to take my meds and deal with it. These tremors make me feel inferior and weaker than I actually am.

Is this really true?

Welcome Rick

I've been on all the pills you've been on. I can think of more fun things to be doing than dealing with side-effects.

As far as info on your seizures & meds- isn't that your legal right?

It is true that Depakene can cause tremors but I have trouble understanding how they might make you (or anyone) inferior or weaker.

I've found that to be a common side-effect of most anti-epileptic drugs.

One friend often tells me I should have more self-esteem than I do.
