I relapsed after being med-free for 2 years. I'm not saying some do this successfully, but I did not. 2 years is a long time. When I was younger, I didn't take meds faithfully and had a few seizures. So, even though I'm on a low dose, it appears I must take something. I wish for you that you could get off them. I am not brave enough to try again.

Funny you should say you relapsed after 2 years cause my Neurologist said that people who go off meds completely, it's likely to have another seizure within 2 years of being off meds. Doesn't happen to everyone but it seems to be the typical range when someone goes off meds & it's even said in the research I've done.

hi

I have had personal experience with taking tegretol cr(which i believe is the same as xr) and i have been off it now for almost 6 years.

I am not suggesting that you go off it completely because it is very dangerous to go cold turkey with aed's but to maybe talk with your neuro and thrash out the details with him/ her.

I can say the above only because i went off my meds slowly but without medical supervision and that was a very risky thing to do and i recognise that it was also careless and i definately dont advise you to do the same as i did.

what worked for me may have very dangerous effects on you.

i wish you the best

:agree: Years ago when I first started having seizures, my dr. (I was seeing a GP then and he didn't know a thing about E, nor did I back then) had me stop Tegretol cold turkey and I ended up in the ER because I went status. One thing a person taking AED's should NEVER do is stop taking them abruptly, but slowly taper the dosage.

I would love to be drug free, too, but for me that will never happen. I hate the fogginess, confusion, and exhaustion I get from the drugs, but on the other hand, I hate the T/C seizures and the injuries I've suffered from them.
