Hey all,
Just wanted to say howdy to everyone and introduce myself and give some back ground about my condition. About a year ago i got a medical retirement from the armybcauae i was diagnosed with pseudoseizurea/ conversion disorder. I have seizures about 5-6 days a week. Mainly they happen at night. They start with a jerking of the leg and turn into a full fledge gran-mal seizure. Ive been told for 3 years now that nothing is wrong or im faking it. And its pretty depressing. I loved being in thwe army i wouldng fake something like thia to get out. I was just denied SSI (i had a lawyer and went to the hearing) the only income i have is from the VA so thats pretty stressful. Im only 25 and i cant work because no one knows what to do with me. I just had an MRI done and they found a cyst on my right temporal lobe. So im wondering if thats the cause of all this. Idk well feel free to comment. Take care

One thing i forgot to add. Ive taken depakote, keppra, lamictil, and some anti-bipolar and anti deppresants with no luck.

You have a cyst on your temporal lobe but they concluded they are psychogenic? That seems . .. odd. If they just found the cyst AFTER the diagnosis they were psychogenic, wouldn't that be worth revisiting that diagnosis? That seems like a possible source for the seizures. Why did they conclude they were psychogenic in the first place? A lot of people here got that diagnosis, and a lot of people here don't really believe it to be true. A negative EEG doesnt really confirm that it isn't epilepsy!

I was diagnosed with the psychigenic seizures because ive had a butt load of EEGs and including a 5 day video monitored EEG. They said there was some brain activity but not enough to call it epilepsy. That was probably close to 2 years ago. They just found the cyst a couple days ago. Andmy doc is trying to get the neurologist to see me. Because apparently they dont wanna see me because i have already been diagnosed with psychogenic. It definitly sucks. But thanjs for the reply

Whoa that is BS! If they found something on MRI who cares what they originally diagnosed you with--they should man up and be willing to evaluate if they were wrong! If you can see a private neurologist who diagnoses you with Epilepsy, won't that be armament to go back to the army and say "You were incorrect" and apply pressure to make them reevaluate? I would not give up this fight. I don't know anything about this process clearly, but it sounds like you were denied benefits, and if it was proven later that you were denied benefits due to a misdiagnosis on their part, it seems like that new information should be something you can use to refight that claim. But I'm not in the military, just a normal civilian that gets majorly hot under the collar at stupidity and injustice!

Lol yeah welcome to my world. If it makes since chances are the millitary wont do it. But thats neither here nor there. Im not a quitter and i refuse to give up. Been doin this for 3 years whats a few more right? Lol. Its extremely frustrating but all i gotta do is wait. Juat thankful the VA gives me some kind of pension so i can support my family

Well that's good to hear. Please keep us posted! I'd like to hear how all this turns out.

Hmm. I am controlled because my doctor decided to dig after a 3 day EEG that showed no seizure activity. Guess it's all in how much the doctor wants to work.

Anyway, welcome to CWE, Serge.

If your EEG had some unusual activity and you are having seizures I don't see how they came up with psychogenic seizures. Have you had a new EEG since the cyst was found?

I don't put alot of stock in EEg's and VEEG's anymore since they can be fallable. For instance your seizures might not be reaching the surface of your brain thus they are not picked up on the EEG. Also in VEEG's you are removed from all of your normal stressures and most likely triggers that occur in your daily life but not in a sanitary environment like a hospital. I've had a VEEG that went over 2 weeks and I was off pills and had no seizures. Then as soon as I got home within 16 hours I had 4 tonic clonic seizures and had to be taken back in. And now since my resections and my changing seizure pattern I only mostly have simple partials and they are mostly at my job. Anyways point is EEG's are not really the most up to date way to diagnose Epilepsy. I would say keep a detailed diary and then just hand it to your doc when you see them so they have something to look at.
Cheers!

Hi Sgt Schmidt

I've been diagnosed with psychogenic seizures years ago along with my seizures with epilepsy.THey stopped though.MY neuro walked in on me in the hospital when I was in a full blown tonicclonic sz and my dh said he ask why had he been calling them pseudo sz's.

I've seen C-SPAN but that doesn't mean that there is any action in DC! Honestly, WTF? I had the 24 hr EEG's done and no activity was shown and diagnosed with epilepsy. I wake up thinking I went through a worm-hole and there is nothing pseudo about it. When you think that medicine is a science there is more guess work then when ET is going to call back>

I'm amazed at some of the stories here....it's really sad to hear people suffering, and "Doctors" telling you that you are making it up! Who the HELL would make up seizures? So sorry, sgt schmidt..but I'm happy to hear you're getting s/t from the VA to help your family and you won't give up. :hugs:

I'm new here, also, and found great help from different people here.
Also...keep asking around the Net. Go to Harvard University, UCLA Medical Center,
etc. Just keep doing your own research as well as enjoy friendships here.

From me...........welcome :)

My best!
Tory
