my family seems to think others with epilepsy or anything conneted is the same as myself but i know everyone is not the same out there. my father heard of one time surgey my cure it all but the last two doctors i went to surgey was out of the question because of the places in eeg there were spikes in a couple of places in my brain

Hey David,

I'm 23, have epilepsy and just joined a bit over a week ago, the forum has really helped me out. it's a good place to source info, ask questions and just vent how you feel bout epilepsy. hope it helps you as much as it has me in this short time :)

Hi David and welcome,

I started have seizures when I was 22 years old. They started as SP and CP and progressed to TC. I was finally sent to a neurosurgeon and had the surgery done after 10 years suffering from seizures, a Left Temporal Lobectomy, and was seizure-free for 14 months. Then the TC's came back worse then before. I was having more intense seizures and with more frequency, not to mention the depression that goes along with it.
The neurologist was thinking of doing a 2nd brain surgery, but my MRI showed the damage was deep in my hippocampus and I could end up like a severe Alzheimer's patient. So that surgery was out of the question for me. I tried many more meds, and then had the VNS. I do hope you find something that works.

Unfortunately for some of us, refractory epilepsy is what we are dealt for life. :(

Hi David,

I have had E. all my life, was diag. in 1972. I'm now 60 years old.

I joined this forum last year and learned more HERE then all my dr. neur. put together. It's helped me understand so much after myself that I couldn't even put into words. It helped me in asking the correct questions when I had my neur. appt.

Make yourself at home.

Hi, I've had epilepsy for 9 years now and surgery was out of the question right from the begining for me. The neuro said I had damage on both sides of my brain (if I understand him right) and it wouldn't do any good.

Your right, epilepsy isn't the same in everyone. There are many different types of seizures and not every one has all those types. Even what causes epilepsy in people are different.

I'm on meds and also have a VNS. I'm still having seizures with the VNS but they are nothing at all like they were before I got it. My nero told me that I was probably always going to have seizures and the only thing that we could do was try for less seizures and have them not be as bad, which through the years it has.

If you have any questions about anything you've come to the right place to find answers. You'll even finding yourself being able to help others too.

Glad to meet you!

Hi David, welcome to CWE!

I hope you feel free to explore all the forums here, and chat/post/vent as needed. CWE is a great resource and a wonderful community.

Best,
Nakamova

Hi David, :) Iam 26 years old myself. I've had epilepsy for the same amount of time as you give or take a year. Since 3 day's before the first day of my first year of h.s. My doctor had also hoped I was a candidate for brain surgery, but my spikes were everywhere, and not in the one place he hoped he would be able to remove. 3 plus years ago, my doctorl went with the VNS, and while the Aura's are still there, the seizures aren't. I am so glad that I got it!

If you ever want to ask about it, or chat no problem. :) I am also new to the community, this is week one for me, and there is a lot of wonderful people here willing to listen and help. :)
