Hi everyone, I've had seizures for 17 years now and they suck. I use to have complex partial seizures for several years but then I was able to get those under control. I also have tonic clonic seizures as well which brings me to why I'm here. I had a tonic clonic seizure on July 7th of 2013 and I'm still trying to figure out why I still hurt so bad from that day. Both sides of my ribs hurt just the same as they did from day 1 of the seizure. I'm not sure if it's muscles off something else. I've been to Dr. and said nothing was wrong. Blood work it's fine so nothing crazy. I also have a sharp pain that comes in good on MY right side under my rib. It feels like something deep down. Anyway, everything gets to hurting after I do very little bending and turning and what not. For example, house cleaning. After so long, I start hurting bad on my right side. It's not my bed I bought a brand new 10" foam mattress about year and a half ago in hopes that would have fixed my problem. Hard to sleep on right side sometimes but just depends. Dr thought I had kidney stones because that's kind of where it's at. Had test done but no stones as I figured. Key thing too, my spine pops all the time now since then. Pop, pop, pop!!! That helps a little. Just didn't know if anyone has had my problem with the muscles or whatever it it's after 2 years of seizure. I could normally walk the muscle pain off in two days. Please join in on my conversation if any ideas and thanks in advance.

Hi bkwagg02, welcome !

I moved your post to The Foyer, so more folks could see it and respond.

Did your doctor do an X-ray or at CT scan? Did they refer you to a specialist? Is there a chiropractor with good references that you could see? One possibility is that you've has disk injury or impingement that is referring pain to other muscles in your back, but you need someone who is able to distinguish different kinds of pain and diagnose the source before you can figure out the right treatment.

My spine does the pop, pop, pop all the time too. It's not a bad thing, it's actually the release of oxygen in the joints as they are stretched (sort of like what happens when people crack their knuckles).

pain 2 years after last seizure

Thanks Nakamova for the welcoming. My old Dr. did a ct scan on my right side I was talking about. He was looking for kidney stones but I knew that wasn't it. I haven't had an xray done yet. I guess I was just hoping it would eventually go away but sadly it hasn't. I feel as if no one believes me. I even told my neurologist and she seemed as if she wasn't thinking much about it either. Blew me off, you know!! Anyway, the feeling and pain is identical to the same pain and stiffness following a seizure. It really feels like muscles to me but not the sharp pain I was talking about. That's different. It's all those muscles right under my rib cage and on both sides and all the way around. Just like the stiffness pain after a seizure. It just hadn't gone away. I am now wondering if it's some sort of muscle spasms that I'm having. I think I could be tensing up expecting the pain and stiffness to come on and then sure enough it does. I'm not for sure though. It's crazy to think that a person can still hurt this long after a seizure. I do know that that seizure was probably one of the most brutal ones I've ever had. I was sitting in the passenger seat of the car with seat belt on when it happened. I wonder if my muscles weren't able to contract the way they needed to because of the seat belt. I'll never know. Thanks for your help. Any ideas are appreciated.

Nakamova has some good advice for you. Helped me a great deal.

Have you been checked out for gallbladder problems? That can cause sharp pain under the right rib. Other intestinal problems can also cause generalized pain that refers upward into the rib cage and back muscles. Worth checking out esp. if the pain gets worse after meals.

If they haven't done an x-ray yet, you could have a cracked rib. If the seatbelt hit at just the right spot during the seizure, it's possible.
You also could just have bruising to the connective tissue between your ribs.
That can take quite a while to heal.

I had the same symptoms. I have pain in my abdomen and my kidney. It was my gynecologist who ordered the test done. It was my regular doctor who had the test done and it was my neurologist who told me what the problem was.

I had a CT scan that covered my whole abdomen and all of my organs and my pelvis. I had the test done and I was told to drink water slowly for 4 hours before the CTscan. I saw my regular doctor and he told me it was my kidney and my spine.

When I saw my neurologist she told me that 2 of my medicines that I am on can cause kidney problems. Gabapentin (Neurontin) and Keppra. Are you on either of those medicines? She took me off of two of my Gabapentin, I am now on 4 a day instead of 6 a day.

Within a week, the pain started to go away. My neurologist will probably take me off of more of the Gabapentin or start on the Keppra.

Welcome to CWE. It was made by Bernard out of love for his wife Stacy. That love permeates throughout the whole forum.

keppra

Thanks for the ideas guys and gals. I am on keppra. That's been my main medicine for many many years. The other medicine that I started right around the same time as my pain was tegretol. I doubt tegretol is my problem though and I hope not because as soon as I went on it, it stopped my complex partials and I've still never had another since. I do however plan on having an xray done but I'll bet there's nothing to be found. I sound negative about it but maybe that's a good thing. Thanks everyone.

I was on Keppra for years before I had a kidney problem. Ask your neurologist if Keppra could be causing the problem. My pain was on my right side underneath my rib cage. It turned out from the CTscan W Contrast that it was the kidney on my left side that is the problem.

Do you have generalized pain all over your abdomen? An x-ray will not show up a kidney problem. You might have a problem with the Keppra and one of your kidneys.

I was given the renal panel blood test first. That showed up normal.

Keppra can cause kidney problems.

Please keep us updated.

Glad to hear that it could be a medication problem..I was having daily pain under my ribcage as well from taking lamotrigine...stopped taking it after 6 months.. it really can be simply just because of the medicine you take..it can really cause you that much discomfort....
