I just joined, and it's nice to talk with other people who understand what's going on. I have had partial complex (psychomotor) for over 40 years-yes, I'm a baby boomer.
Though I've been 99.9% under control for quite awhile, i still do get auras. Mine are similar to yours-extreme stage fright is the only way I can describe them-it's like something in my stomach that just tenses up.
I've been told many times that i hyperventilate before I go into a seizure. My neurologist suggested breathing into a paper lunch bag. That wasn't something I always had, so I tried holding my breath. That didn't stop all of my seizures, but it did help occasionally.
I've also found out that different medications can trigger seizures. I had a bad allergy 2 years ago, and took Sudafed. In the past that was never a problem, but suddenly I had several seizures. I checked it out on-line, and there it was-Another trigger i found last year were the prescription cough drops, Benzonate. (I think that's how it's spelled.) I was ok with no more than 2 per day, but when my coughing got worse, I took 3 per day, which I was told I could do. For two days, i had seizures. Again-I checked it on line, and it can trigger seizures!

Welcome Sue

You're so lucky to have your seizures so well controlled. I learned at an early age that hyperventilating not only triggers a seizure but is something I do when having one.

If I can I've learned that trying to control or slow my breathing during a seizure, even if I don't feel I need to does help a lot.

Also, I gave you your own thread so you can get a good welcome to the site.

Hi Sue, welcome!

The breathing is a good trick to have if you get any warning at all. Deep breathing (as in originating in the diaphragm), is good -- inhaling small breaths through the nose and then doing a long slow exhale through the mouth.

I hope you feel free to explore all the different forums here at CWE -- there are places to vent or chat or get a laugh -- whatever strikes you.

Best,
Nakamova

Hi, Sue, and Welcome! :)

Oh, yeah... sudafed. It makes me feel like there is a giant bumblebee buzzing around in my head, and then... seizure-o-rama. Not good. I don't do well on Benedryl, either. I get massive nosebleeds. I didn't before AED's, so I have no idea what's going on.

Hi Sue

Welcome to CWE, it a great place to encourage and be encouraged by people who really do know what you are going though!
