I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 13 after a gm. I had been up all night playing video games and the flashing lights of a particular game set it off. I woke up and to ems all around me had no idea what year it was or other basic info. I felt as though I was speaking crystal clear but no one could understand me.
I often experienced the deja vu phenomenon and none seemed to be connected to the strobe light effect that set of my initial attack. There is one major difference for me anyway between common deja vu and an epileptic "deja vu". Regular deja vu feels like a familiar event while the epileptic event is much more intense, accompanied by nervousness and are often multiple in sequence. For me I recognize a thought or a place or event, which leads to another and another and so on. It seems to be at least 6-10 images or events and the strange thing is I know what is coming, what will be said or done. Sometimes these flashes are totally unrelated but I still seem to know what comes next seconds before. When this happens I don't have any convulsions.
My mom once witnessed an episode and tried to talk to me and although I knew what she was saying, I felt so relaxed that I'm not sure if I couldn't respond or just didn't want to.
I did notice that it always seemed to happen when I was either sick or tired.
