This past Wednesday I had 3 seizures, two at home and one in the emergency room. The only that is different is I started taking synthroid because lab work showed and extremely high TSH, it was 86.4. But when I did a follow up lab work after being on the synthroid for two week and my TSH came down to normal at 1.8.

This was really scarey for me and my family. Please tell me this will go away sometime soon, better yet, never again.

Hi gingergirl --

I moved your post to give its own thread in The Foyer, so folks could welcome you.

Seizures are definitely scary. It's been 13 years since my first one, and I can very easily summon up the panic and distress. I hope your seizures are just a "one-off" -- most likely a situational reaction related to your thyroid treatment. It's rare, but too much synthroid can cause seizures, especially when you first start taking it. Have they done any additional tests -- EEG, MRI? Usually those are the next step to rule out any underlying neurological issues.

I recommend that you be very gentle with yourself right now while your seizure threshold is lowered. Avoid all known stressors, make sure to get enough sleep, and eat and drink properly. And I hope and your family can put this behind you soon.

Best,
Nakamova

First thing you need to do is sit down and take a second. Nakamova makes very good points. What you are going through is scary to no end and seizures are very scary. If I am not mistaken you have a little bit to go before you are told its epilepsy. So take it easy anything can happen, always be positive, rest is probably the best thing at the moment. Take care of yourself and good look.

I don't have much to add, but I agree with the above. Just take it easy for the next few days/ couple of weeks. Get some good sleep, eat well and avoid alcohol for a bit.

Chances are it will go away, provoked seizures happen all the time
