Hi, hope everyone is doing ok :)

I'm from the UK, and I had epilepsy with tonic clonic and partial seizures from birth until I was 11, I was taking sodium valaporate to control the seizures.

When I was 12 I was taken off the medication and have had no tonic clonic seizures since, but occasional (1-2 times per year) partial seizures.

I am now nearly 32 and was diagnosed with chronic migraine last year, and along with the headaches which are on and off, I have constant feeling of pressure on the left temple area and loss of feeling on and off down left side of face and in fingers, and occasional twitches, flashes and squiggles of lights and my eye on my right side occasionally droops during a migraine.

But the reason I'm posting here is, since I've been having more of these migraines (which are nearly constant now)... I have been having increasing partial seizures, 2 in the last two weeks. and 1 the month before, and 1 two months before that. Which although isn't really that many, its more then what was usual for me before.

I have been to my GP who says it is to do with the migraine, which he thinks will stop in a couple of years on their own as he says it is common for people in their 30's to get migraines(?)

I havn't been back about the recent seizures (he knows I have had a couple) I don't want to keep going back with every new symptom which is probably just part of the migraine, because he'll probably think I'm a right hypochondriac. Was just wondering if anyone knew if migraines could cause these partial seizures?

Hi, and welcome to CWE!
First and foremost, get yourself a neurologist. Your migraine symptoms could sound somewhat like a form of hemiplegic migraine, esp. if your partial seizures are on the same side of your body as the migraine symptoms in your head and face. There is nothing frequent or common about these if this is what you do have. I have what are called atypical hemiplegic migraines as well as seizures. Migraines and partial seizures can have confusing similarities, which is why it is important to see a neurologist about your symptoms now.

Hi, thankyou :)

I'll go back to GP and ask if they will refer me to a neurologist. I think the seizures are on the same side (its like a feeling in the stomach of being on a rollercoaster and strong feeling of deja vu and nausea.. goes off after a couple of minutes but I'm exhausted after it).

I've read a bit about it online and from what I've read it does seem to be coming from the temporal area.

will book another appointment, thankyou :)

After many of my seizures I will get very bad migraines that will last for hours.

Try to keep track of what's going on. The seizures and what happens during them, the migraines or anything else unusual. This will help him understand more about what is happening.

Hi FlowerFae, welcome!

I agree with the others, you should definitely see a specialist. I have a feeling that if your GP were experiencing your symptoms he wouldn't just wait for them to go away on their own...

Hemiplegic migraines involve a strong sense of weakness or even temporary paralysis in the limbs and sometimes torso on one side of the body. If you don't have anything like this when your partial seizures occur, that is a good thing :)

Hi there, sorry to hear you aren't feeling very well!

I'm currently being investigated for both epilepsy and atypical migraine. I recognise the symptoms you are describing.

I've realised that there is a cross over with epilepsy and migraine, a migraine specialist I saw explained to me that migraines are like a type of seizure. I've realised that they can both trigger each other.

I too have had tingling and numbness during an episode, but while my arm felt weak and funny, I could move it easily. I've been told that because of this it was most likely a partial seizure.

I also get the roller coaster feeling and nausea, and feel exhausted after. Sometimes it goes away and I just feel tired, other times it gets worse and worse until I lose consciousness. No idea what happens to me then, I've always been alone when that happens. But its awful and hitting the floor that hard isnt nice.

I'd definitely go and see a neuro, its incredibly complicated. I've been told that epilepsy medication can also treat migraine symptoms!

Best of luck with everything, let us know how you get on

K xx

Hello Fae

I would like to add my two cents in here. Have you had an MRI or Cat scan? This would rule out a tumor. Before my tumor was found, i was having bad migraine type headaches and nausea in the mornings.

Cheers
