My first post here. Glad I found this site where so many people can relate to each others issues. My 23 year old daughter (she is a fraternal twin) started having seizures at 8 months old. Long story short, she had left temporal lobe surgery in August 2013. They said they had pin pointed the problem and went in and cut at that spot. She remained on medication and was still having some spells here and there. They changed her medication to Aptiom about 3 months ago. Now she is having seizures where she lightly jerks for about 20 to 30 seconds (seems like an hour) and then stops. After she stops she is real confused and the left side of her mouth droops like she has just had a stroke. She tries to drink water and it just runs out like her mouth is numb. When she tries to drink or talk it appears that she has just got up from the dentist chair and had shots of Novocain on that side. After a few minutes she is back to normal. She is going back in for more tests on 1/27/15. After her surgery she was positive and had such a wonderful attitude, thinking her life was going to change and she could start driving and living a normal life (like her sister, which are very close to each other). She is very discouraged at this time and I am distraught (for her) at this time. I would be so very grateful for feedback on my situation. Thanks!! Don

Hi dmorgan57, welcome to CWE!

It sounds like your daughter is having complex partial seizures (where her awareness is partially impaired). Has she spoken to her neurologist about trying a different dose/medication, or switching back to the one she was on before? It sounds as if the Aptiom is hurting as much as it's helping.

CWE members have had many different kinds of experiences with surgery, and will no doubt chime in with words of empathy and support. Thank you Kakamova. Just returned home from work. Second surgery had crossed my mind. I was also thinking the new medication was doing more harm than good. I will read the link. Thank your for your reply and I will post Brittney's progress. Talk to you again soon.

Yes, definitely keep us posted. I hope a medication change will do the trick.
