I do not have epilepsy. I have chronic hypotension which causes me to faint/lose consciousness frequently. I've been told that the worst of these episodes are considered non-epileptic seizures, but I normally just refer to my condition as fainting.

Essentially, due to any number of random factors, my blood pressure drops to comatose levels and I have loss of vision/hearing and then lose consciousness. Sometimes I'll just have the loss of hearing/vision and time will pass without my knowledge, or everything will just be foggy and I can't seem to connect to anything (sorry for the ambiguity, I haven't had any diagnosis beyond hypotension for the fainting). Currently, I lose consciousness at least daily and I can't drive and I can't do anything "dangerous" without someone there for fear I'll fall and hurt myself.

I know it's not the same, and I will never claim to face the same level of adversity as many members of this forum. There are definite similarities though and I've found reading through the experiences of others to be very beneficial.

Forgive me if I have been insensitive in some way; I'm still very ignorant but I am glad to have found a community of people in similar situations. However, I know this was not created for people in my situation, so I understand if I don't belong or cannot be part of this forum and will harbor no ill will.
Thank you for reading!

Hi Fauna! I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who have non-epileptic seizures or seizure-like episodes that are a result of other medical problems. I've never been under the impression that you needed to have epilepsy to be welcome here!!

I've heard of something called POTS that causes fainting when standing up. Is your condition similar to that? Sorry if I seem nosy. Just interested. Anyway, welcome :)

! ! ! ! ! WELCOME TO CWE Fauna ! ! ! ! !

Fauna,
If we(the members of CWE) can help you in any way by answering any questions you may have, feel free to ask those questions. I know that there are some ways that E and your condition cross paths and it would be because of that that we could possibly help each other in ways that we had never thought we could.
We are open to questions and we will try to answer any of them that we can! :twocents:

I also want to say that I don't think there is any competition here in terms of "levels of adversity." It sounds like your situation is difficult, and I agree that your experiences sound similar to seizures!

Hey Fauna, welcome to CWE! Make yourself at home.

Just out of curiosity, have you always had low blood pressure or did it develop gradually?

Thank you, y'all are so kind! :) I was just worried because I don't want to make anyone feel as if I'm invading their space! I'm grateful you are all so welcoming!

zombelina - I don't mind, you're not being nosy at all! :) My condition is similar, but not the same. From my understanding (a la Wikipedia) the causes are different, POTS is unrelated to drops in blood pressure, but rather increased heart rate. And my fainting isn't always prompted by standing or change in exercise. It does have a similar effect though, it's crazy how many different things can cause the same symptoms! And thank you for your kind welcome, even though it isn't the exact same, it's wonderful to find a community of understanding people :)

acshuman - That's what I'm hoping, I'd love to help in any way I can :) Thank you, I won't hesitate to ask :)

Nakamova - I welcome curiosity! :) I've always had lower than average blood pressure (often reading around 80/40), but since I was a younger teen with below average weight and was a ballet dancer, it was never a cause for concern. Now that I'm older, my bp is around 100/60, which is low, but still not concerning for a younger female with low body weight (I'm 5'7" and 120 lbs. for reference). The sudden drops of blood pressure causing fogginess and fainting didn't develop until I was 12. And thank you! :)

Kepp Yourself Active In the Forum!

Fauna,
I have found over the many years that I have lived w/E(50+) that keeping active in the learning of new things is the best way to help yourself and help others at the same time. This takes place because a person wants to share new knowledge that they have learned and help others when doing so!
The number of people I have learned from is a great number and that could be true for most anyone.
This knowledge doesn't come to everybody by itself. It has to have a carrier and being a carrier is a very satisfying feeling. Spreading knowledge can also be a great way for a person to raise their self-confidence!

Fauna - Thanks for the response :). I did not know that POTS was related to heart rate. You learn something new every day! Happy to have you here.

Welcome ^_^

I'm a bit late to say welcome but oh well, I only just joined a couple days ago.

Also, my sister has had a non-epileptic seizure before, but I'm not sure what they're like. Either way, there's definitely some people on here that don't have epilepsy, but do have seizures, so you're completely welcome here, don't worry :)
