Hello, just found this site.... Only discovered I had Epilepsy on labour day 2006, went a year without another seizure until labour day 2006.... So not very familliar with causes and symptoms...

Hi military! Welcome to CWE. We're a nice group of people, so feel free to ask any questions you might have. :) Check out the Epilepsy 101 thread. It gives some good basic info on epilepsy. Check out the library here at the forum. There's lots of interesting information there.

Hello Militarynewf!
Welcome to the board. I hope you find all the info that you need. I can tell you there is alot of helpful and kind people on this board I have met since I have been on here. I hope you get the information you need. Feel free!:hello:

:hello: Militarynewf!

Welcome to CWE and make yourself a home here,
and feel free to browse around and there's lots to
learn, and lots of humor in here too, as well as
polls, and resources, and much, much more!

:)

Aloha militarynewf- you have come to the best place:clap:I have gotten more insight and explanations here than in the doctor's office and the folks here are tremendous. Sorry to here that you had another event. It can really knock ya for a loop but hang in there. It is usually worse (I think) for those around us. I can't imagine what parents must go thru seeing their 'baby' seize-for me I look for a soft landing and sleep it off after. Lots of stories and most are pretty funny - thing is just because you have seizures it doesn't mean ya gotta give up livin or lovin...sometimes the livin is done on the ground so choose wisely...understand that your loved ones are afraid and fear is always based on the unknown.

Hi Militarynewf

Welcome to CWE, I hope you get as much from this site as I have, it's totally wicked for information, and for making you feel that you are not alone with the condition.

Do you know what caused your epilepsy to start? what anti convulsants are you on? I'm on Keppra, I have tried just about all of them over the last 22 years and none of them have worked for me, I would have to be awkward and have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, and the Complex Partial Seizures are the most difficult to control, what type of seizures do you have?

I've had brain surgery once in Sept 2000, I was seizure free for five wonderful years, it then returned with a vengeance and I'm having my second operation on June 26th this year, fingers crossed, as I've just about had enough of it!

I hope you enjoy your time on this site, it would be great to hear back from you.

Best Wishes

Elaine

thanks for replies

The seizures that I had were of the Grand Mal type, that is all I know about them. I'm om tegretol 200mg 3 times a day.... I used to have alot of dizzy spells or Petit Mal as I'm told but they are gone since medication... I have no known cause, still puzzled about that.....

Hi Militarynewf

Welcome to CWE, you've certainly found the best place to be if you need a bit of support and people who simply understand each other. I only joined a few months ago, but what a terrific bunch of people, and it is fascinating to get different people's perspective on epilepsy, and how it is dealt with in different parts of the world.
Have you had all the scans and EEG's to try and find out what causes your seizures? I'm just waiting for my second lot of brain surgery on June 26th, I have Hippocampal Sclerosis, so they are gonna remove it, really messes the hair up though!
Anyway, I hope you find the info you need, if you want to ask me anything please feel free, I've just finished a four year university course on the care and management of epilepsy, and have plenty of books and info on the condition if I can help in any way. I found it a great comfort to be in touch with folk who simply understand each other the world over, welcome, and enjoy!

Loadsalove (See how bad my memory is, I already replied to you!! ha ha!! Oh well, I'll keep taking the tablets!)

tests

I have had EEG's, MRI's, EKG's, ECG's, Ecocardiograms and a few that I don't know the acronum for!!!! All the heart tests were carried out because my heart goes into atril-fibrilation for a couple days and then reverts back into a normal sinas-rythum. Does anybody else's heart do wonderful things after their seizures????

Not that I'm personally aware of for myself, but there are a few on here that have similar problems.

Have the figured out what to do for you? Besides control the seizures......which is obviously the preferred thing......
