GREAT NEWS!!! So excited that my son's MRI came out normal...guess he officially has been diagnosed with epilepsy. That I'm not excited about...but, at least he doesn't have a tumor...I'll take that.

Now, to get him regulated.

Hi Mzollinger, sorry to hear about what you are going through but so happy that your son had a normal MRI. I have a daughter that is 3 with a normal MRI too. I hope your son starts adjusting to the meds soon. I have 10 year old and 8 year old boys so i can imagine how hard it would be to keep them down and away from video games as well.

Robin,

My son's blood sugars levels were checked. However, I did recently find out that I have 2 abnormal mutuated MTHFR genes. It's the #1 gene found in Autism among other problems is can cause in the body. I asked my son's nuerologist if this could be the cause of his seizures, and if we should test him as well for this. He assured me it was completely unrelated although it would be a good thing to do for his health.

What are your thoughts on that?

Also...wanted to mention that I have a child who has asbergers, and I've always wondered about this son who is having seizures. Last year, the Dr. told me he needed to be tested. I asked the school and they refused saying his tests scores were ok. I've studied a lot about asbergers over the years, and many don't understand that asberger children actually preform very well at school for the most part because they are in their element. It's been very difficult getting help for my children. Autism and seizures I've heard can go hand in hand...does anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I continue to try and push for that sort of testing?

I have a high functioning son with aspergers. Brains would have to be identical to have it be related. I believe there is apt to be more relationship between the gut and brain, than brain to brain.

You are right autism and seizures are many time found in the same body. Again, there is a lot of theories being considered now that autism is highly likely due to a brain gut connection.

You can test all you want, and many times it is helpful to have that in place to get individual resources for your child. However it does unfortunately put a stigma on them, if they don't need it.

My daughters blood sugar levels were fine on the avg glucose test they give. We didn't see a difference until they finally were willing to give her a glucose tolerance test. Don't rule out that the tests are not always accurate, for what you are seeking.
