Many thanks to the person who created this forum. It's been helpful to read other stories and learn new ways of managing epilepsy.

I had my first seizure two years ago, at the age of 24, and was diagnosed with simple partial seizures. With the help of Topamax, my seizures (nearly all simple partial seizures, with the occasional simple partial seizure that leads into a complex partial seizure) have been reduced from 2 per month to approximately 6 - 8 per year.

I'm sure I'll be back with questions soon enough, but for now, thank you for the forum and happy holidays - and good health - to all.

I'm glad you are on a medication to help control your seizures. :) I have temporal lobe epilepsy, and have simple partial seizures. I am taking Keppra XR. So far, things have been going good for me.

I am also new here. Awaiting ambulatory EEG testing to begin 12/30, about the time my next "event" is expected, to confirm diagnosis. My suspected simple partial seizures involve episodes of intense sweating. Up to 18 episodes in a 24 hour period, then nothing for about 28 days. Been going on for 2 1/2 years. Curious as to what others experience with this type of seizure, and wondering if anyone has events similar to mine. Shortest interval between events has been 23 days, longest 33. Not sure what type of drug treatment they may recommend. Is it possible I could take medication only in the day or so before an event is expected?

Hi Capitolhill1, glad you found this forum and I think you will find out a lot here.

I have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, my seizures are simple partials, however mine don't sound like yours. My seizures will start with deja vn, then I will stare into space, I will know where I'm at, who is talking and what they are saying, however I'm unable to respond. I will sack my lips and have movement in my arms. They have lasted no more than 1 or 2 min.

I have had several Neur. who have tried many medications with me. This is the only way they will know what works for you. Each medic. works different with each person.

I'm sorry to say --no--there is not a medications that someone can take only at the time of a seizure.

I hope this can help you.
