Names bryan, 27, from canada. Have been having seizures since 2012. Been in a hospital bed since Monday, so I figured I'd sign up and try to ask some questions here :)

Welcome, Bryan! What questions do you want to ask? Whatever they are, I'm sure you will get a number of answers for them here. Have fun in the hospital. What could be better, right? (or not!)

Posted a question in "the kitchen" section.

Basically trying to find out why my body's being mean and won't give me a seizure while I'm in the hospital doing my video eeg tests...yet I know once I'm out of here I'll have them lol

Anyway to bring one on? Sleep deprived? Just got fully taken off all my meds today, so how long is the half life of dilantin/lamotragine...when should it be completely out of my system etc?

Hi Bryan, welcome!

Many folks seem to have the same problem you're having -- they get all hooked up and then their brain refuses to misbehave! I don't know what it is about the hospital setting...
The half-life of those meds depends a bit on the dosages, but I found it took about two weeks for me to have a seizure after going off Dilantin. That was after a slow taper rather than an abrupt stoppage, so you may get seizure activity sooner than I did.

Best way to bring on a seizure is sleep deprivation and anything else you suspect is a trigger for you -- low blood sugar, stress, jumping up and down with your hands over your head, stretching and yawning, hyperventilating -- whatever it takes. Good luck!

Sorry, was trying to say that after being in the hospital for 7 days while tapering off dilantin+lamotragine, I was finally off everything on Sunday...was a slow taper. Haven't had a seizure yet though.

Dr visited me today telling me that him and the neuro will decide if what they have so far would be acceptable for me to proceed with surgery, but hooked up with direct metal plates on the brain during it so it gives a more accurate reading.

Forgot to mention, my epilepsy is a result from an arachnoid cyst inside my noggin, so they know where the area of orgin is etc, I think they just need to find the specific piece of damaged tissue to yank out.
