Hi,

First, I want to say i have been reading everyones posts for the past couple of days and everyone's experiences and feedback has really helped. We are seeing the neuro at Kennedy next week for follow up. She had an overnight video EEG which came back as"normal". When we last saw the Dr. said might be localized complex seizures which I guess will find out more next week.

But after reading everything on here, I now believe things that has happened to her have been symptoms of some kind of seizures.

Little history: (turned out to be more than a Little, sorry)
2yrs ago: MRI for headaches showed 2 lesions on the left side, also noted spacey spells - saw neuro Dr. - determined to nothing as he said alot of people have these spots and don't even know it - no other symptoms at the time
Oct. 2011- hit back of her head at the base of her skull on the left - slight concussion
Mid-January 2012 - nausea all of the time - thought it was the flu(I'm not so sure now)
Then - 3 episodes of just passing out at school while sitting at desk - last episode she was unresponsive for over 30 mins even in ER. - MRI showed no changed in spots from 2yrs ago - referred to neuro Dr at Kennedy.
Then a seizure at school that lasted long enough when I got there was still going on- at least 10mins - ambo was there taking to ER. She was shaking all over but eyes open. Kept her over night and just said to keep neuro appt.
She had been complaining about smells and was worrying it was her but we couldn't smell anything. I know realize it was probable a sign of what was going to happen.
Saw neuro Dr and scheduled overnight EEG. - in the meantime had another seizure at school(she had worried about the smell thing again that morning) at which time we decide to keep her home until tests and til we see Dr next week.
She has had only one seizure here at home, but was a short one.
After reading things are here I realize alot of the things she has complained about or mentioned are more than just a pre-teen making things up.
Smells, thinking she has said something outloud when she hasn't, nose bleeds that she has never had before, plus more i have read about on her.

Sorry for the long post, hope we can get an answer next week eventhough the test was normal and this site has been really helpful.

Sorry one more thing, the neuro Dr said while waiting on the EEG to be checking out Keppra or Tegritol as poss meds he may want to use.

Hi anw, welcome to CWE, (though I am sorry for the circumstances).

The symptoms of a seizure disorder aren't always easy to decipher, especially if you don't know what you are looking for. They can be vague or intermittent, and it's easy to find other explanations. Hindsight is 20/20 of course! The list of symptoms you provide does seem pretty telling. You're doing the right thing by researching what may be going on -- that will be helpful for your peace of mind, and for when you see the neurologist. There's lots of info on CWE about both Tegretol and Keppra. You can search for mentions of them using the "Search" tag in bar at the top, or you can post a specific question.

Best,
Nakamova
