Hi,
Just wanted to introduce myself.....I was diagnose a few weeks ago with temporal lobe epilepsy...was put on Keppra....2000mg a day, and was wondering if these mood swings and tiredness will eventually go away?? :ponder:

Welcome Tanya

I remember being on Keppra & it was awful for me. That said, everyone reacts differently.

I would say wait a month and see if they go away. Also, Vitamine B6 has helped some people on this site with the moods, especially anger.

My advice would be to keep a diary of how you feel because when I was on Keppra I had trouble remembering how I felt an hour ago let alone the previous day. Also keep a diary of your seizures to see how effective it is.

Hi Tanya228, welcome!

Congrats for finding us! CWE members offer a lot of empathy and support, as well as info and anecdotal advice. Quite a few members have tried Keppra (I haven't; so I'm hoping they will chime in), and as you probably know, it has a reputation for affecting mood -- sometimes quite dramatically. Some people love it; for others, its side effects end up being problematic. There's no way to predict what will happen in your case, but it's a good idea to keep a journal so you can track the side effects and see if they are staying the same, or changing for the better or worse. If the side effects become intolerable, then talk to your neurologist right away about trying a different med.

Some folks have found that taking Vitamin B6 as part of a B-Complex supplement helps even out the moodiness -- you might want to check with your doc about giving this a shot.

In general, do what you can to be proactive about your overall health. Good info can be found here: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f22/proactive-prescription-epilepsy-1254/

I hope you feel better soon. When I started Lamictal, it took a few months for some of the sleep- and mood-related side effects to lessen.

Best,
Nakamova
