Thanks for reading this....a little about me. I am a middle aged female, and had my first seizure nearly two yrs a ago. I was at work and it knocked me to my knees. Thought I'd had a stroke. After months of heart testing, it became apparent I'd had a seizure. The EEG proved it. I am currently taking dilantin, which has worked well in controlling the seizures. However my levels were tested a couple of weeks ago and found to be waaaaay low (should be between 10 - 20, was only 3.8 ). I was taking 300 mg daily, and it was upped to 400 daily. Now I am a depressed, weeping zombie. I can't believe how much difference that extra pill has made. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I am desperate to find a neurologist in or near Springfield, MO. Please, please respond if you know of one. Thanks to all who've read this little story. I hope and pray we all get our lives back someday.

Welcome Toni, I've been on Dilantin for most of my childhood but with 2 other drugs at the same time. I do know the zombie feeling you're talking about.

My personal advice would be to see if the side-effects go away after a month or so (I know... long time). Also, you might want to ask the doc/neurologist if you can take a larger dose before bedtime so that it effects your daily activities less. It will probably be harder to wake up (it was for me) but it might make things easier overall.

Hey, Toni. Welcome to CWE.

Keep an eye on those side effects. Negative side effects can change your life in such a negative way.

I'm know nothing about Springfield doctors, but if you have to reach out to St Louis, I would be happy to help. I know it is not easy to make the three or so hour treck.

Good luck, Toni.

I really appreciate that offer and totally agree with you on the negatives. My friends are telling me I'm not "me" anymore. Gonna have to try harder. Thnx

Hi Toni,
welcome to cwe.
I was on Dilantin around 36 years and I always took 3 drugs never just Dilantin.
Dilantin was good at erasing my memory.
