Hi Everyone,
My 4 year old just started having absence seizures. He has one everyday while eating lunch. I've tried giving him fruit and crackers during the morning, every two hours, rather than just once between breakfast and lunch. I thought maybe his blood sugar level might be low. Today I noticed he seemed very tired an hour before the seizure happened. Has anyone ever had a seizure once a day at the same time? I feel like I'm doing something wrong in the morning with him, but I can't figure out what. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm still researching on Google. Thank you!

Hi Pnal, welcome to CWE!

Some seizures types seem to correlate with certain times a day depending on where they originate in the brain, but I don't think there's data on that for absence seizures. In your son's case, it could relate to metabolic issues -- perhaps blood sugar as you suspect, but also rhythms related to sleep, or sunlight.

Is your son currently on medication, or are you trying to stay med-free? If you are pursuing the dietary route, a good option is the Modified Atkins Diet (MAD). it's not as rigorous as the ketogenic diet, and has a good track record with absence seizures. The meals aim to be high fat/low carb. You can get more info here: http://www.atkinsforseizures.com/story.html

Best,
Nakamova

I have seizures almost daily and I have cycles where they will almost always happen within a certain time during my routine. They seem to be more relevant to what my routine is than what I"m eating.

Mine are also very relevant to my sleep routine or if I get a lack of sleep.

I do agree with Nakamova though to try the Modified Atkins Diet. Nothing is certain but if you are worried about blood sugar/diet it might be helpful.
