I'm sure you guys get a lot of posts like "do i have epilepsy" etc. So please bear with me..I'm confused, have no diagnosis, no answers and no ideas. I am being sent for an EEG Feb 21st...but from what i have been reading, that may not even give me any kind of answers. I'm going to take you thru my experience, and please feel free to add any thoughts or opinions.
Little bit of back history...All my life i have had "staring" episodes. Kind of where i drift off, I'm still totally conscious, can talk, but don't want to, nor do i want to break my focus on whatever it is i am focusing on at the time. It actually feels good, a bit relaxing. Never thought anything of it, other than day dreaming.
Fast forward to November 7th 2011. I had worked an evening shift the night before- which means i worked until 11pm. I was up at 0515 to get ready for my day shift (7am-3pm) I got out of bed, made a coffee, jumped in the shower and got dressed. From here, i have no memory. I woke up in my daughters bed (who was at her Dads at the time). I woke up feeling sore all over...my neck especially...felt like i had whip lash. My muscles were aching, and i was exhausted. It was 0715. My husband had woke me up..I had no memory of going to the bed, nor do i remember the 30 minutes following waking up. I went to work, and felt terrible all day. I ended up going home early. The next day a massive bruise had appeared on the inner part of my arm from my elbow to my armpit area. I also had a small bruise on my face. It took me the rest of the day, to start to feel a bit better. I attributed it to being so tired, i passed out, fell asleep etc.

Now, last week, Same thing..i worked an evening the night before and a day the next day. Woke up at 0515, made my coffee, had a shower, got dressed. I woke up to my husband standing above me saying "what are you doing?" I was laying on the bathroom floor, fully dressed, wet hair from shower. Shower was on. I have no memory of how i got on the bathroom floor. He said he tried to shake me awake, but i wouldn't wake up. The next 30 minutes are also a blur. Apparently, i got up, did my hair, makeup, and he called my mom, we went to my doctor. This stuff, i don't remember. Funny thing is, when i came to, hubby said the shower was on...but i had already taken a shower, gotten dressed, etc. I woke up with a black eye, broken nose, bruised forehead, bruised knees, elbows, a cut on my finger, a bleeding earring hole in my ear, and a toenail broken right off.

Doctor thinks i passed out from vasodilation in the shower...but the memory loss? and a second time? all the injuries? it just doesn't add up. I found out 2 days ago, that my first cousin has epilepsy and had the same stuff happening, but oddly, it always happened before her period...both times it has happened to me, i have been menstruating...
I don't know where to go from here...does any of this sound like seizures?
i've read everything i can online, but i still don't know...being that every person is so different...i really would love to hear some experiences.

Thank you, in advance.
xx

Hi tanyalynn, welcome to CWE!

What you describe -- the memory loss, the "whiplash" feeling, the soreness -- sounds like seizures to me. The fact that these episodes happen while you have been menstruating suggests a hormonal link (it's called catamenial epilepsy), but another trigger could be fatigue, given your changing work/sleep schedule.

I hope the EEG is helpful one way or another, and that you can see a neurologist -- he/she should be more helpful then your regular doctor. Feel free to check back here with any questions.

Best,
Nakamova
