numerous "episodes" per day - what else could this be?

I am not quite sure where to post questions here yet, but since I am still new and getting used to things, I will post here. I don't see my new neurologist until next Thursday and these "episodes" that I am having are so very weird that I just don't know what to think. They are happening many times per day - up to about every hour or so - and I am wondering what in the WORLD they could be, if not seizures. Is is worrisome that they seem to be changing and getting more frequent?

I can feel them coming on - my hand will start rubbing the fingers together or I will start feeling all tingly inside (it's not always exactly the same). I am fully conscious and aware of my surroundings. My head goes from side to side, the right side of my face droops, my eyes go upwards and shut up tight - I can't open them. My right hand will keep rubbing against itself or my clothes, I can feel groggy and spacy, and then towards the end I get a wave of nausea. It takes me a minute or two to come out of it - all of this lasts at the most five minutes, sometimes less.

I have many other health issues, including neurological ones (dystonia) and this is not at all like any dystonia movements I have ever had. I also have diabetic autonomic neuropathy and am in generally poor health, so this is no great surprise. It is just so odd, though. I know that no one here can diagnose me - I don't expect that. I just appreciate the help and understanding as I go down yet another diagnostic pathway... Any ideas what in the world this could be if NOT seizures?!!

Thanks so much for putting up with an impatient patient. LOL

The first thing your neurologist should do is an EEG. This will confirm that you are in fact having seizures. With some types of seizures, it's not uncommon to have several a day. I too have many seizures a day (verified with several EEGs over the years) and the medication does very little for me. If the EEG comes back abnormal, the EEG should also reveal the type of seizure and will direct the doctor towards the medications that should control your seizures. Your neurologist might also want an MRI done to rule out any brain abnormalities.

Good luck, I hope you get the answers you're looking for!

Thanks! The EEG they did in the hospital was basically normal, but I am sure he will want a new one. I have had a brain MRI as recently as December and there are quite a few things on it, so I will take a copy of the report with me - it was done at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I can only have MRI's done at certain hospitals, as I have had Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for my dystonia. I am actually wondering if the wires in my brain are causing problems, as the MRI does say there are artifacts around them....

Anyway - thanks again!
