OMG.

I had just woken up this morning... late... and I was half asleep making coffee (I take seroquel at night so it makes me sleepy) and the phone rings.

SO i answer it... and here is what I get...

"NATALIE we need your details why have you not completed your details we dont even have your phone number or emergency contact info and WHAT adress are you at......

yack .. yack .. yack ... yack .... talking very quickly. I could not get a word in for about 5 minutes

I was like uhhhh this is my number the ONE you called me at...you have my emergency number... then she said

"YES BUT YOU NEED TO GIVE ME CONSENT TO BE ABLE TO CONTACT HER IN EMERGENCY"

I was thinking why nothing has been said before now until this morning...

So Im getting very stressed at this point.. UGHHHHH

It was like my mother all over again-thank God i moved away from that .. she would do this.. call me in the morning yacking on and on about what I have to do each day.....

I was so shocked.. and tired I could not say anything.. but now Im thinking I may call back..

Her attitude was absaloutly appauling....I could not believe it.. SHE had just got to work becuase it was 9am and she must have called me as soon as she got there with this nonsense.

call her back, and speak and to speak to her boss or another receptionist. Anyone but her. then tell the other person what this woman has been doing and complain about her. You have every right to proper and respectful service. Then calmly ask the other person to email or fax you the information and you can fill it out and send it back. There is no need to get worked up over a strangers ignorance.

Besides she has no bearing on anything that you are embarking on. She's just the desk jockey. She does nothing but type and answer the phones all day. and if she's ever rude when she calls agian. hand up. she'll call back and asked why you hung up, and you can tell her straight out that you find her behaviour rude and you will be phoning her boss again.

I think

Rae said everything I had to say, and then some. And she said it very well, too. :)

Its a private practice, and she is the only receptionist.. so I guess her boss is my Neurologist. I made an app for next Monday, when I go, I am going to tell my Neuro what I think.

Here are some boundries I will tell her for hte future.

1) Her receptionist is not allowed to call me before 12pm, I do not appreciate having to get worked up before this time as it gets me all stressed and ruins my day. When I was back in the UK where my family live, my mother would call me up at Univeristy every freaking morning saying "have you called the student loan company yet.. you need to do this this and this" (thats why I said it was like my mother all over again)

2)If she has an attitude again-Yes I will just hang up the phone.

Video log isnt coming on at all. LOL .. but how about this.... when I get the TNS system in 6 weeks (got to keep a seizure diary first)... I will make a video of it and show you guys and put it up on youtube.

I did capture some more seizure stuff and its on a DVD right now ... but its just the same old ...will post some stuff soon.

sounds good. you could even do a video log of your seizures, so you can maybe catch a few on the tape, and when you hand that in to your study, it might help them out more.
What exactly do you have to do for the study?

Hey.

The study is going to be testing TNS on people with refractory epilepsy who have at least 2 complex partial seizures a month or 2 tonic clonic.

Right now I have to keep a log for 6 weeks. I go back in 6 weeks and they are going to show me how to use hte system.

TNS system is basically like a tiny ipod you wear around your waste with 2 leads/pads going up to your forehead.. and you stick them there. You wear it for like 12-14 hours a day.. (so will wear it while im sleeping and in the morning)

Its something to do with the nerve that runs across your forehead that sends signals to the brain. They believe this nerve is partly responsible for seizures, so the tNS system stimulates it a certain way.

Will def do a video on it when I have it.

That would actually be really awesome. to be able to see the device in action. what it looks like. you could give a "demo" on how you put it on and what not. I am actually really interested in this.

does it hurt to stick it on

No it does not hurt. When I go back in 6 weeks to use it, they adjust the level of electrical current that is comfortable for you...so not sure if that tones down the stimulation, im assuming it will.. I will have to see...

I have a bunch of notes here that I was given. TNS has been used to treat people with chronic pain so far....but not epilepsy. They also want to see if it helps mood.

In 2002 have used a TNS machine and it helped my Fibro(and the E I hadn't been diagnosed with yet) greatly.

That's awesome to learn there is a great device out there that may help you.

I'd first let that receptionist go to an answering machine. When you're ready to call her back, make an appointment in person to go over all paperwork. She probably has to have all paperwork done at the office due to privacy laws.

This is exactly what I do with the more obnoxious people at the VA hospital. If it's not either Dr. Useful or Dr. More Useful, they get dumped to voicemail and I call them back and tell them they can forward the paperwork to the Texas Veteran's Commission office and I will have the vet representatives take care of it (so I don't have to deal with jerks and can deal with it at my own pace, hehe). Does wonders for my stress level. :D
