I can't spell to save my life. I also am so new to this. Been in the hospital for the last week to have all kinds of tests run because I was just falling out like someone was pulling my plug out.

They said I was having.............(sounds like this) SINKABLE SPELLS....can anyone please please help me so I can look stuff up online. I can't drive anymore. I can't work anymore and I am a CNA that did home health for the elderly and LOVED it and now I am just beside myself.

I am on yahoo IM if you want to talk or ask questions or vent or share or anything. THANK YOU.

Hi Emily - Welcome to CWE... I wish I had a magic wand for you right at this moment.
I do have to say, I could not find one misspelled word in your entire post, so I doubt that is a huge issue.

I am not sure about whtat the hospital diagnosed you as having. Sinkable Spells is a new one for me. As for why you can't work any longer... is that because you can't drive? I don't really understand why you can't work. However, I do understand being "beside oneself". My daughter started having seizures two years ago and I certainly was beside myself that is for sure. However, we have come a long way and life is looking very good these days, so have heart that you will find help there or here that will make life enjoyable again.

Welcome Emily

I hope things start to get better this week. Epilepsy sure can be a roller coaster, so be strong and endure these low times and enjoy the heck out of the good times.

Your "sinkable" spells may have been "syncope". Syncope is a term used for a type of fainting or passing out.

One thing that helped me improve my spelling over the years were computer programs with spell check. I always have it on and it sure helped me. You can even type your posts for here in a program like Word that has spell check and then 'copy/paste' them here.

So sorry you can no longer use your skills in helping others. I used to volunteer as an EMT and that was so rewarding helping others in an emergency.

Hi Emily, welcome to the forum. :hello:

It's not clear from your description if you were having atonic seizures or narcoleptic attacks. Hope the testing you are doing is able to determine a correct diagnosis.

P.S. You can add your Yahoo IM info to your profile from your control panel.

Hi Darling

Oh bless your heart, and welcome to this wonderful website! I hope, and I'm sure you will, get all you need from it, especially support, comfort, friendship, and information. I haven't heard of "sinkable spells" either, the first word that came to my mind was syncope or passing out. Ask them to explain it more to you darling, I'm afraid doctors do sometimes tend to talk over you and not too you, not all of them by any means, but you sometimes have to stand up and say "Hey, what about me? It's my brain your discussing!" I've done that a few times.

You don't say much about what time of the day these spells are taking place, I'm sure between us all, we could give you some answers, keep in touch, you will only get the most amazing support on here, and if we can't help you, we must "know a man who can!" Hope to hear from you soon mate!!

Love

reading helps ur spelling. and im not talking about reading things on the computer, even if they were books.

it has to be genuine reading! it might take time but in a few years of reading u will notice an amazing difference to both spelling and vocab.

plus it's enjoyable as hell! and it gets better and better the more u read.

(and don't be conscious of what u read, even Mills and Boon will help!)

another thing you might try to help with your spelling is to create your own little way of remembering how to spell certain words. for example, the word "together" always gave my son trouble, so i told him to think of it as "to get her".

Hi Emily! Welcome to CWE. :) As for spelling, as a teacher, I have to agree with 1096. :) Reading is the best way to improve spelling....but it does take a while. :) In the meantime, I'd take advantage of spellcheck on your computer. :) I hope that your test results come back good. In the meantime, take some time and try to relax. If you're having seizures, or even if your not, stress can only make things worse.

Hello Emily

I am in exactly the same boat as you are. After my last seizure 2 months ago (I have'nt had 1 for 4 years) I can't spell anymore and can't read. I can read but I can't remember what I've read and I also cannot drive.

The hardest for me is the fact that I have to depend on other people.

Remember you are not alone.

HI Emily

and welcome to CWE! This is a wonderful place to be.......Mr B (Bernard) has made us an AWESOME home here. Stick around awhile, I promise you'll like it.
I see Buckeye forgot to bring the coffee, so.......

Your spelling is fine......but it sucks beans about your job, and not being able to drive. How much longer are you on restriction for that?

Sorry about all the troubles you've been having, but Buckeye's right......sinkable spells......syncope.......sounds about right to me.

Please come back, and stay awhile!

Take care,

Meetz

Emily,
I agree with Elaine. Ask your doctor to explain it in plain words what your condition is. You have come to a great place for love, support and just a place to vent your feelings. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

That "sinkable" feeling

Hi Emily,
I was just googleing seizures and you post came up. I may have some information for you. Yesterday my 11 year old daughter ended up in the ER with some strange symptoms that scared the witts out of me. She got her second holes done in her ears and about 15 minutes after stiffened up and started jerking back in a seizure like manner her eyes stayed open and her lips turned blue. It took her a good couple of minutes to be with it again and felt drained for about 4 hours following. I talked with a few friends,a MD, an RN, an EMT and a paramedic, called the on call Pedi and decided we should head to the ER. Here is what they told us. What she had is what is called a "syncopal seizure" most likely, due to the axiety and stress of getting her ears peirced she fainted. fainting in the sitting or standing position eliminates adequate blood flow to the brain, thus her lips turning blue. The lack of oxygen triggers the vaso nerve which has something to do with involuntary body functions which resulted in her body stiffening like a board and the jerking reaction like a seizure. There are many other possible contributing factors that can cause to happen but stress and anxiety are big ones. The ER doctor forwarned me also that in the future things like blood draws, pericings ect. would likely cause another episode. Maybe your episodes have a contributing stress factor as well, try and think back. I hope this helps you.

Most Sincerly,
Hetha:wave:
