Hi. I don't have epilepsy but had 2 seizures late May while withdrawing from a boat load of meds. Was diagnosed 15 yrs ago w/ Lupus. That led to lots of drugs including oxycodone and soma. My main concern is that after 4 1/2 months, my back is still a wreck. Everything hurts it. The muscles in my mid and upper back are in spasm 90% of the time unless I am laying flat on my back. I am seeing a chiro. Wondering if anybody else has exerienced such long term effects. Don't know what to do to get relief. Is it normal to hurt this long after the seizures? Also, I bit off both sides of my tongue. Does that ever become normal again? Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi Curious1 --

When I had my first seizures, it did take a few months to recover. I saw a physical therapist who provided relief with ultrasound, and helped the recovery with exercises to strengthen and protect the muscles involved. You might also consult your doctor to evaluate whether the muscle pain is muscular or nerve-based or both.

Ordinarily the tongue heals relatively quickly -- a few weeks to a month. If your tongue is still raw a this point there may be an infection or other irritant -- again, something for your doctor to evaluate.

Best,
Nakamova

Thank you Nakamova

It never occurred to me that it could be nerve related. That probably makes sense since it has been much longer than it takes muscles to heal. My tongue has healed but it looks weird. I appreciate your feedback.

Thorasic sprain anyone?

After a little more digging, I think maybe I have a thorasic sprain. Has anyone ever experienced this and how long did it take you to recover? What did you do to treat it? Did exercises help? What kind? Thanks.
