Seeing my old PCP on Tuesday... praying she will refer me to a GOOD neuro but is there anything else she'll be able to do for me (while I sit and wait to be seen by someone who may possibly understand me)? Are they able to prescribe meds?

And does anyone have any pointers while I wait? Vitamins, diets, anything at this point. I feel so confined because I'm afraid to go into a GM - which I'm all too familiar with and do not enjoy :(

I've noticed a huge short term memory loss over the last several weeks. My husband says I toss a lot at night and make noises for awhile then stop. Not my usual sleeping toss to get comfortable.

During the day I notice I will "twitch" or "jerk" my head (which then feels like a million pounds) and my arms or upper body will do the same for a minute (well, seconds), I'll sit and be fine 15 minutes later. Sometimes longer. Followed by a headache and a nap usually. And I have zero energy.

At this point I cannot wait to see a doctor. I am so confused.

Are you on any anti-seizure medications?

Ihave never taken anything for seizures. I had an EEG when I was a kid but nothing came from that and was told I would outgrow this... I am not a fan of doctors so I never went back but its so bad now, I won't go anywhere. I have 3 kids, I can't live like this..

Your PCP may not feel comfortable prescribing anti-seizure meds -- most just don't have enough information to do so. But she might be able to prescribe an "emergency" rx of Ativan, to have just in case.

As far as vitamins/diets go, everyone is different. Magnesium can play a big role in the nervous system, especially anything having to do with muscle tension or jerking. So you might consider taking a magnesium supplement. I take magnesium citrate, which is a good absorbable form.

Many of the diets that have helped with seizure control are low-carb/high fat (like the Modified Atkins Diet. They require a fair amount of discipline, and it can take time to see results. If you feel like you want to try one, discuss it with your PCP -- she may have advice or guidelines to follow.
