Let's have a little fun. I found this today and it made me smile. Post in this thread any oldie but goodie. Just remember, if you admit to remembering, you'll be telling your age!

Also I have one of these, I got as a little kid. Any other Dennis-the-Menace spoon holders out there?

Remember when Cracker jacks had actual prizes and not just stickers??? Or when milk was actually delivered to your home??

Does anyone remember the little portable record players that folded up into a suitcase?? They played 33 1/3s, 45s and 78s. I had one of those until I was about 8 yrs old. My mom told me the other day, that they actually got it for my brother for Christmas. But I quickly took it over. I remember when we used to go visit my grandparents in the summer, I'd always take it to their house.

Hmmm (Just for "entertainment purposes only")

If anyone can remember when COLOR TV came
out (Solid State) and even though Black and White
TV's were still out there ... but of course, It wasn't
"The Wonderful World of Disney" ... but rather ....

:mrt:

Later changed on to this:

Just for FUN - here's an OLD Disneyland
Commercial .... (It's Black and White)...

PS: Disney World did not come until later on...

Oh gee I am old! Disney would come on every Sunday evening at 7 pm but I was never allowed to watch it because we had to go to church. Most stomach aches would begin right after dinner and just HOPED my mom would fall for it. Needless to say, I didn't watch very much of Disney. LOL :noevil:

And the next best thing to bottled soda... FIZZIES

One of my old favorites.

Oh wow....I remember Disney on Sunday nights too.... :) Anyone else remember watching Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo??? Still love watching falling ping pong balls....Or how about 'romper stomper bomper boo..." and the magic mirror?

I remember the first show I saw in color was Gillian's Island and I was amazed!
My father was stationed in Vietnam in late 60s. We kept in touch by doing audio tapes (reel to reel). My father found one of the tapes and we listened to it over Mother's Day. My nephew was amazed at the technology (or lack or!).
Do you remember these:
Green stamps
Candy cigarettes
Pop in bottles and paying deposit on the bottle
Outhouses
Telephone party lines

Heck Yeah! My mom got some nifty stuff by saving up green stamps...I still have one of the books I think... And yes, the younger folks might be horrified at the thought of candy cigarrettes, but I thought they were fun..and you can still find them in some smaller mom and pop candy stores. As for pop in bottles..yup. We had a soda machine at church..25cents a bottle. And you put the glass bottle back in a wooden crate when you were done. the soda we have today just doesn't taste the same...unless you get the ones bottled in Mexico. the coke bottled in Mexico is as good as I remember it when I was a kid. My friends family actually had an outhouse, but that was because they lived on a farm. :) and the party lines sadly no longer existed..at least not in the town I grew up in....But then again, we didn't have to wear seatbelts or bicycle helmets either...and you could be under 15 and get a job in the summer (many kids I knew detassled during the summer),movies were a dollar, pixie sticks and pop rocks were all the rage, leg warmers were in, as were friendship pins and mood rings.

I had a spoon similar to the one above. It had Tony the Tiger from the cereal. My sister had Woody Woodpecker. No idea what happened to them.

We had black and white TVs for a long time. My grandparents had a color TV and that was always a treat to go see Disney and The Ed Sullivan Show. When my parents finally bought a color TV, they won one in a contest 2 months later.

That Dennis spoon was the one thing my mother saved from my childhood. I found it in the silverware chest after her death. I can clearly remember eating my Rice Crispies with that spoon watching Capt. Kangaroo in B&W

Remember when the Reece Cups first came out? They were in a box of 40 with a gold celephane wrapper. They didn't last 24 hours.

How about toaster Pizza? I LOVED those things.

Remember sit and spins? Or green machines? I saw one of the new modeled green machines recently...but haven't seen a sit and spin forever. Or how about slinky, when it first came out...or the rubik's cube...or that sanke shaped puzzle that you could twist and turn into shapes like dogs, etc? I remember when you used to go to the burger shop in town and it was either go in and eat, or park and a girl would take your order and then bring it out to the car. I remember life before drive thru's. I remember the A& W sandwich shop and the root beer floats and the glass mugs you could keep. I remember the days before you could buy the safety stuff like socket guards...I remember when formula was considered only for those new moms that just couldn't feed their babies..before it was considered a valid option for all new moms. I remember life before Ben and Jerry's ice cream was sold in all the grocery stores, as well as life before soy. i remember the local bakery, and how you could go and get a loaf of day old bread for a dime. I remember being able to find dairy farmers nearby that would sell you raw milk for cheap, and provided glass bottles for you to put it in. Remember when Dairy Queen only did ice cream? And the only treats on a stick they had were the peanut buster parfait bar and the dilly bar? Remember when personl pan pizzas first came out? They were all the rage....Or how about when drive in movie theaters were the norm, and not considered a novelty?

I'm 23, but i remember having a record player in my room when i was around 7. I loved Jason Donovan at the time and would play "sealed with a kiss" over and over again and putting the needle back to the start.

I had a black and white tv in my room up until i was about 13, when i changed it for a tellyvideo instead. A snowy picture was alright to put up with, when i had my own TV!

I was obsessed by My Little Pony as a kid, and had a pink cutlery set with "Louise" on the handles. My mum still has the fork in the kitchen - I've had it for 22 years!

Mobile (cell) phones only really came in when i was in the last two years or so of high school (1999-2001 ish). Obviously they'd been around for a while, but thats the only time i can really recall people starting to get them at school. They were monotone, and the most popular was a nokia 3210 which had the game "snake" on it. When polyphonic ringtones came out, everyone was really made up! My first mobile was a motorola which was MASSIVE. And expensive to use, if i remember right.

The internet was available in the local library when i was about 11, and the first time i used it! I just sat looking at the address bar and thinking "what do i do here?" after trying random words with no luck, it got explained to me that i needed a web address.

Oh yeah... We used to have an old Spectrum ZX when they were still around. You loaded tape cassettes, and got rewarded with a flashing square while it was loading. For anything upto an hour :pop:

We were dumbfounded when we got bought a Sega Mega Drive one year. Our mum and dad had to limit our playing time to something like half an hour a day.

So yeah anyhoo.

We were always a little behind with technology up until the last 5 years or so. My parents were quite young when they had us, so we didn't have a lot of money. I think we were more happy exploring outside though, even though my mum got really annoyed when i came home constantly with skinned knees, scuffed shoes and/or holes in my trouser knees:banana:

Well, I wasn't going to let my two brothers outdo me!

Remember how big the first cell phones were?? A friend of mine just got rid of hers about 5 years ago...it looked as big as a brick and looked more like a field phone that the military uses when out on maneuvers....

Loopy! You actually got a TV in your room?! *boggle* There was only one TV in our house...And this was back when TV was FREE. There was no such thing as cable...just whatever your TV antennas and bunny ears could pick up. :)

Most of my childhood, we only had the one tv in our house too.
I remember when my kids were little, my Dad found our pong video game, my kids couldn't believe we thought that was great fun!

Or how about that oh so advanced game of space invaders?? Remember that march like music?

OK, I was a cronic Lassie fan, and I do remember our first color tv! I also remember putting a dime in my shoe for the pay phone for 'emergencies'! It was sooo long ago, where did the time go? Come to think about it...I remember when my dad had our car retro-fitted for seat belts.....:woot:
