Seizure in a chair

Hello guys, :hello:
I know this might sound a bit of a strange question but if someone had a tonic clonic seizure in a chair (i.e. computer chair) what is the observer meant to do especially once the seizure has stopped and the person is unconscious in the chair and their head goes floppy? :ponder: Does the observer have to place the person on the floor in the recovery position or do they have to lift their head up to make sure they can breathe? Just unsure. Might have to give a speech to my work mates next week regarding epilepsy and what to do incase I have a seizure. Thank you for your time.

I would think that because of dizziness/fatigue/nausea/discomfort, etc. it might be safest and nicest to be placed in the recovery position on the floor, or on a couch if there is one -- but only if that is easily done. If there's a risk that your co-workers might drop you, or if you appear to have suffered an injury, then moving you might be a bad idea.

Also if there's any chance at all that you might have an additional seizure after the first one, then being prone would be a safer position.
 
Not sure, closest I've come to having a bad seizure while sat in a chair was having what was my worst TC seizure EVER whilst sat on the loo......:roflmao: (did'nt laugh at the time as I fractured my jaw on the radiator and tore my shoulder muscle, but 2 yrs down the line, I can see the funny side.....)
 
Personally, I

would say put the person down into the recovery position......but it would also depend on the circumstances, too, I think.
 
I have had a few tonic-clonics while sitting in front of my computer. The chair I have doesnt have arms on it, so I tend to end up on the ground whether someone put me there or I fell during the seizure.

So I would have to agree with everyone else. I normally have another tonic clonic after the first one, so it would definitely be nice if I was placed in recover position after. *unless another injury is suspected*

But in the off chance you stayed in the chair, I'd say if they can safely move you, then do so, or if they cant (someone smaller than you or weak) then i'd say just leave you with your head tilted so you can keep the air way clear.
 
I would tend to say the person should be left alone in the chair. My father had a huge grande mal years ago and the paramedics but him on the floor. His seizure continued and he broke seven veterbraes from being on the floor
 
I had on in a car seat. My hubby was driving and had parked in a parking lot. He let me finish my seizure (grand mal), then drove me home and helped me inside to our bedroom, where he put me in the recovery position on the bed.
 
Thank you everyone for your answers. :) Find them very helpful / useful. Please wish me luck because I start my first day back at work tomorrow after being off for 4 months. Scared and very nervous. :( Will feel like the new girl again. :razz2: lol Going to have to take it a step at a time because I have lost so much memory since then. Eek! :paperbag:

I found each time I ended up on the floor anyway.

One time I remained in a chair my head went forward and I stopped breathing....... family reacted badly and were walking me around the room. Iv'e never felt so fecking awful in my whole life.

My reply: Eek not good, though they meant well. Hope they learnt from it. :)
 
I have had a few in the computer chair. My family usually puts me on the floor, if I don't fall out of the chair (which I usually do). If im at church (where I work) and I feel one coming on my friends lead me to a couch to rest (which has been deemed "the seizure couch, by me of course :P) and if do have a tonic clonic they attempt to get me to the floor.
 
Hey Debbie, My name is Jackie. I had my one and only seizure while at home with my granddaughter. I was in the chair and remained there. I did not fall out and when I became conscious the EMT's were there and they had not moved me. My granddaughter said I did not jerk or kick. She said I slobbered. She thought I had fallen asleep and told me it was not time to take a nap.
